Children always look forward to the first month of summer, because it means the beginning of a long three-month vacation, during which they are free from daily cramming. But adults also love relaxation, and therefore June is just as long-awaited for them. Moreover, the weekend in June 2017 in Russia promises to be long enough to have time to relax or go on a short trip. In addition, this month there will be enough reasons to meet and relax with colleagues and friends.

Holidays in June 2017 in Russia

The first days of the month are already festive, because the first of June is World Children's Day. A holiday that rightfully bears the title of one of the oldest in Europe and the world.

The long-awaited long weekend awaits citizens on Russia Day, when everyone will be able not only to go to a parade or entertainment event, but also to swim to their heart's content in nearby reservoirs - the weather is already suitable for splashing around.

Also this month, Russia celebrates Youth Day - the younger generation spends their holidays very actively: concerts, picnics, trips and festivals that they organize for themselves are usually very bright and memorable.

Orthodox citizens will continue to celebrate a series of religious holidays, as they celebrate Trinity Sunday in June.

Among the weekends in June 2017 in Russia there is also a sad date - the Day of Mourning for those killed in the Second World War, because on June 22 they remember those who became the first victims of the brutal attack on the USSR by Germany.

World Children's Day - June 1

The common phrase that children are the most important thing in the life of every person was confirmed at the international level almost a hundred years ago, when they first started talking about the problem of child protection at a global conference. These were the post-war years: at the end of the First World War, when half of Europe was once again in ruins, the children who survived this terrible event had to build a new future for themselves and their heirs. In order to preserve childhood and draw attention to this problem, it was decided to introduce such a holiday. Among the weekends in June 2017, it is only the first in a whole galaxy of holidays dedicated to children, teenagers and youth.

Today it is difficult to say why the first day of summer was chosen as Children's Day, but this date was widespread throughout the world and now corresponding events and promotions are held in every country on the globe. There is a version that it was then that the consul of this country in the United States organized a holiday for orphans from China with performances by artists and gifts. Attention to the problem of children has been drawn more than once at international meetings. Thus, the need to preserve a peaceful future and ensure a happy childhood was also discussed at the Geneva Convention.

After the Second World War, the so-called “children’s” issue became especially acute, because millions of children were left without shelter and help. And already in 1949, it was decided to hold the holiday at the global level on the initiative of women who spoke at the Paris Congress. At the same time, a flag was invented - a symbol of the day. On a green background, symbolizing nature and harmony, in the very center there is an image of the planet, and around it are children's figures of different colors. This means that all children, regardless of skin color, religion or nationality, should be protected not only by their state, but also by the world community.

During these holidays in June 2017, entertainment and entertainment events are held in Russia over the weekend: concerts and performances by creative groups at matinees, competitions and festivals. Public foundations and government agencies organize trips and excursions for orphans, and sports competitions with valuable prizes. But it is important to remember that children need help not just one day a year, but every day. And it is only in our power to provide it to them.

Trinity - June 4

Trinity continues the cycle of the main Christian holidays, which follow in succession. Celebrated on the tenth day after the Ascension and on the 50th day after the Resurrection of the Lord, that is, Easter. Hence another name for the holiday - Pentecost. This is one of the holidays in June 2017, on which believers visit churches, pray and keep a non-strict fast.

The Holy Scripture - namely, the part that describes the acts of the apostles - tells how the apostles, the Virgin Mary (mother of Jesus) and other disciples of Christ gathered on one day under one roof to pray and honor him. But suddenly a column of light descended from the sky and froze in the form of a tongue of flame above each of the apostles present. This is how the last command of Jesus was fulfilled, who promised his disciples that they would be able to bring the word of God to everyone, regardless of the language people speak, because the apostles felt that they understood and could speak in those languages that they did not previously know. So the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles and endowed them with this gift.

That day there were many people in Jerusalem and those who saw the miracle asked what should be done now? The Apostle Peter answered them that they needed to believe, repent and lead a righteous life as a Christian. At the same time, about three thousand people were baptized and became the first followers of Christ after his death. It is also believed that from this moment the history of the Apostolic Church and the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth begins.

On this day, churches are decorated with fresh herbs that cover the floors and branches of young trees that wrap around the icons. Believers take home bouquets and fresh herbs as a sign of renewal and glorification of life on earth. In the temple itself, a solemn service is held ahead of time - from Saturday evening - and the priests themselves dress in green robes.

Pushkin Day - June 6

It will probably be difficult to find anyone in our country who has not read at least one work by Pushkin. Fairy tales are read to children, schoolchildren learn his poems and read his stories, and literature lessons tell about his life and achievements. The Russian poet is rightfully considered great, because his creative heritage is widely known throughout the world, translated into many languages, revered and loved by many. Alexander Sergeevich is rightfully considered the founder of modern Russian writing.

The date of honoring the poet is also connected with his biography - it is his birthday. During the celebration of the bicentenary of his birth, it was decided to consolidate the holiday at the national level. Over time, this weekend in June 2017 became Russian Language Day and acquired a slightly different meaning. Everywhere, but especially in large cities, festivals and holidays dedicated to the work of Pushkin are held, performances based on his fairy tales are staged and skits are performed for children, thematic meetings and readings are held. All this is intended not only to glorify the poet, but also to preserve and support the Russian language, as part of the heritage of the poet and the entire people.

Russia Day - June 12

This one is most often associated with all citizens receiving extra days off in June 2017. By the way, this year there are four of them. They are usually used to go out of town, spend time with relatives and friends on a picnic in nature.

Meanwhile, the authorities, establishing the holiday, pursued a specific goal. Almost immediately after the collapse of the USSR, several decisions were made at the legislative assembly of deputies and important documents were signed, including the Declaration of National Sovereignty, which gave a new name to the whole country - the Russian Federation first appeared in this document. It was planned that the day of signing would become a national holiday. But the people did not greet the government’s initiative with due enthusiasm, using the extra day off for their own needs.

But government officials continued to popularize the holiday and organize public festivities every year. The holiday received its current name relatively recently - only in 2002, and, as researchers say, since then things have moved in the right direction. The celebrations became more widespread and the day began to acquire traditions and become imbued with the spirit of patriotism. In the capital, as in other cities, festive concerts and festivals are held, a variety of entertainment events are organized, including competitions and the presentation of awards for special services to the state, and the day ends with a festive fireworks display.

Father's Day - June 18

This is not an official day off in June 2017 and everyone arranges holidays for themselves, but gradually the holiday is gaining more and more fans in Russia and the scale of its celebration is growing.

The history of the creation of the holiday tells how a girl from the USA, living in the small town of Spokane, proposed to congratulate and honor not only mothers for their work in raising a child, but also fathers. She herself was from a large family, her mother died giving birth to her sixth child, and the whole family was supported and raised by her father. Wanting to express gratitude to him, as well as to all single fathers in America, the girl took the initiative to government agencies. And the very next year, in 1910, the holiday was held for the first time in her city and several surrounding ones.

The holiday became a national day only sixty years later, when its date was fixed by presidential decree. True, the exact date is not stated; the document only states that it is scheduled for the third Sunday in June of each year.

Over time, the holiday migrated to other countries. So, it is celebrated in Europe and South America, Asia and South Africa. In some states, other dates are chosen for the holiday.

In Russia, the holiday is just being introduced, and therefore large-scale celebrations are not held, but the “Papa Fest” campaign has already become a permanent feature, during which fathers and children can take part in competitions, visit the festival and play with their children.

Day of Remembrance and Sorrow - June 22

This is a black day on the calendar, which will always remain in the history of Russia as the most tragic and sad. In 1941, it was on this summer day that a massive attack was launched on the former republics, signaling the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In the memory of veterans and those who were able to live to this day, he is forever associated with the death of loved ones.

And although it is difficult to call a holiday in June 2017, when everyone mourns and remembers those killed during the war, solemn marches, processions and other events are held in hero cities and beyond to remind of the sacrifice of the people for the sake of victory. It is known that during the war more than 20 million people died at the front, but there were also casualties in the rear. Therefore, it is customary to honor the memory of not only the soldiers who took direct part in the battles, but also those who died in enemy concentration camps, were tortured by the Nazis during their attacks and assaults, and died of malnutrition, trying to provide the army with everything necessary.

Youth Day in Russia - June 27

Everyone knows that youth are the future of every country and therefore they try to take care of the comprehensive and full development of young people and girls, providing them with a decent standard of living, affordable education and opportunities for self-realization. Thus, the celebration of youth took place in the republics even when they were part of the huge Soviet Union.

The current date was introduced by President Yeltsin back in 1993, when the holiday received national status. However, since there are no days off for Youth Day in June 2017, and the 27th may also fall on a weekday, the holiday is often celebrated as before - on the very last Sunday in June.

In honor of the holiday, concerts with the participation of stars and performances by youth creative groups, sports competitions, festivals, fairs and other entertainment and entertainment events are organized. The main goal of the festivities is to show the importance of youth for the country, to popularize a healthy lifestyle and to provide support to the younger generation. Also, programs are being developed specifically for the country’s youth to provide free education at the country’s best universities, and social projects are being implemented to combat youth unemployment.

June 1 – International Children's Day

Each of us must remember that children need a carefree childhood.

Children are the future of any state, therefore the main goal of every adult on the planet is to ensure a bright and cheerful childhood, not overshadowed by sad events. The decision to hold this day was made back in 1925, when a global conference was held dedicated to the problems of a prosperous life for children.

Historians do not give an exact answer to the question of why June 1 was chosen as a memorable date. One version says that on this day 92 years ago, the DPRK Consul General arranged a colorful holiday for Chinese orphans living in the United States. Then, at the Geneva Conference, they decided to draw the attention of the world community to the problem of orphans. In addition, the issue of child protection became especially acute after the Second World War.

In 1949, at the Paris Women's Congress, it was said that only the joint efforts of all countries of the Earth in ensuring peace can guarantee the happiness of the little inhabitants of our planet. A year later, Children's Day was held at the global level. They even came up with their own flag for it! The green banner of the banner symbolizes harmony and nature, and around the image of the Earth there are figures of children of different colors.

They identify with the diversity of races and nationalities and promote tolerance regardless of religion or skin color. Today, on this day, thematic matinees, concerts, competitions and other entertainment events are held in all cities of Russia. However, every adult inhabitant of the Earth must remember that this is not only a cheerful celebration, but also a reminder that every effort must be made to ensure the younger generation the right to a happy and carefree childhood.

June 4 – Trinity (Pentecost)

On Trinity Sunday it is customary to decorate churches and houses with fragrant green herbs.

An important Christian holiday, identified with the power of life and the bright beginning, which glorifies the Holy Trinity. The name “Pentecost” is explained by the following story: on the 50th day after the miracle of the resurrection of Jesus, Mary, the apostles and companions of the Savior gathered in Jerusalem. As soon as it was nine o'clock in the morning, a noise was heard from the sky, a strong wind rose and flames shot up right in the house.

The pillars of fire stopped at each of Christ's companions. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and felt within themselves the gift of speaking in languages hitherto unknown to them. Thus, the vow of Jesus was fulfilled, who bestowed upon them the gift of preaching his teaching to all the peoples of the world, glorifying God and telling about his Laws. The apostles and disciples went out to the people and began to spread the Word of God.

Their preaching was so powerful that many people believed in God. People began to ask: “What to do next?” And Peter told them that they must repent of their sins and be baptized in order to receive forgiveness. Three thousand people were baptized that day, marking the beginning of the establishment of the Church of Christ. All Orthodox Christians visit churches on Trinity Sunday and bring home bouquets of fresh fragrant plants and herbs.

This tradition dates back to the times of the Old Testament, when there was a custom to decorate houses and temples with greenery in memory of how nature blossomed on Mount Sinai at the time when the tablets of the laws were given to Moses. Bouquets should also remind believers that under the influence of God's grace the human soul blossoms with the fruits of virtue.

June 6 – Pushkin Day (Russian Language Day)

On the birthday of the great poet we celebrate Russian Language Day

Every year all of Russia celebrates the day dedicated to the memory of A.S. Pushkin, whose works are still published in many languages and are loved by many generations of children and adults. It is Pushkin who is considered the founder of modern Russian written speech. The tales of the great poet are one of the first literary works that every Russian child gets acquainted with. June 6 was not chosen by chance. It was on this day 218 years ago that the future great poet and writer was born.

It received the status of a national holiday in 1997, when the whole country solemnly celebrated the bicentennial anniversary of the poet’s birth. Every year on June 6, several thousand people come to Pushkinskiye Gory and Mikhailovskoye. On this day, Pushkin festivals, thematic exhibitions and performances dedicated not only to Pushkin, but also to the Russian language are organized in all cities of Russia. The memorial day is intended to support the development of the Russian language as a heritage of the Russian people.

June 12 – Russia Day

Russia Day belongs to the category of the youngest national holidays. 27 years ago, the first Congress of People's Deputies approved the Declaration of National Sovereignty. The country received a new name and became known as the Russian Federation, and also acquired its first president and fundamental law. The first attempts to give the holiday national status were unsuccessful - the people were not particularly clear about the essence of the celebration. Most citizens simply used the extra day off to go to the country or relax with friends.

The authorities tried to organize public festivities, but the events could not be called mass. The name Russia Day originated in 2002. Since then, the holiday began to acquire features of patriotism, symbolizing national unity for the sake of prosperity and harmony of all residents of the country. On this day, festive fireworks are always displayed, concerts, exhibitions and ceremonial events are organized, at which the most outstanding citizens receive State Awards from the hands of the President.

June 18 – Father's Day

In mid-June, be sure to congratulate your beloved dad on the holiday!

In every person’s life there are close people who will always listen to our sorrows and share our joy, support us in difficult situations and find words of consolation. These people are our parents. Mother's Day belongs to the category of rather old holidays, but fathers have been unfairly forgotten for a long time. The initiative to create such a day originated in the USA.

In 1909, a Spokane woman proposed a holiday dedicated to fathers to pay tribute to their work, kindness and dedication. She herself grew up in a family with six children. The girl’s mother left this world early, so all the worries of raising her fell on the shoulders of the father of a large family. Of course, he could not replace the children’s mother, but he did everything in his power to surround the children with tenderness, affection and care.

Over time, the tradition of honoring fathers spread throughout the United States. Today Father's Day is celebrated by residents of France, England, China, Holland and many other countries of the world. It always falls on the third Sunday in June. On this day, it is customary to say words of love and tenderness to our fathers, to thank them for their hard work and concern for our well-being.

June 22 – Day of Remembrance and Sorrow

Honor the memory of those killed in the Great Patriotic War

June 22, 1941 is one of the saddest dates in Russian history. On this day, Hitler's troops launched a massive attack on the countries of the Union. A bloody war began, which claimed the lives of more than 20 million people. This memorable date is intended to remind contemporaries of all those who died in battles for their Motherland, giving their lives for the bright future of their descendants.

On this day, the entire population of Russia remembers those who were tortured in the camps and died in the rear from malnutrition, providing the army with ammunition and uniforms. The date June 22 will forever remain in the hearts of Russians. On this day, ceremonial events are held in every corner of Russia, and flowers and wreaths are laid at monuments and memorial complexes.
