Of course, I'm not talking about knitted sweaters and tunics, because these are the MOST NEEDED things in the world! But as for various decorative crafts, it is often more interesting to knit them than to use them later.

I recently made several of these towels and am extremely pleased with them. I didn’t even think that they would improve your mood so much! In this article I will tell you how to decorate a kitchen towel with your own hands.

I needed a material that absorbs water well, so I bought several terry napkins and a meter of special fabric for kitchen towels (waffle). Each napkin produced one full-fledged product, and two towels emerged from the cut.

I used cotton yarn TM “Yaroslav” (350 m/50 grams).

Towels I tied it in two folds with crochet number 2,1.

How to properly finish an edge: hook or needle

To prepare the fabric for binding, you must first form an edge to which it will be easy to tie the border. There are two ways to do this:

• overlock stitch with needle;
• crocheting “bushes”.

In this case, I chose the second method. I don’t think the overlock stitch is reliable enough for items that will be used so intensively.

And this is where the problems began, because the pattern repeat is designed for two arches. I have 11 of them, they can’t be divided in half.

When I knitted the first towel (white with a white border), it was a little narrower and it turned out to be 10 arches, so I used the original pattern and did not suffer.

When working with the purple border, I had to get out of my way. I developed my own scheme.

When making a product for yourself, you can choose any materials and colors, but if you need to tie a towel as a gift, I would recommend some neutral patterns and shades of yarn.

Of course, if you know for sure that the person who will be the happy owner of the finished product loves hot pink, this remark is not for you.

I added a loop to the other side of the towel. I personally find it more convenient this way, and they dry faster this way.

Preparing the fabric for tying is done in exactly the same way as for the border. Further work should be carried out according to the scheme.

An important feature: when knitting an openwork border (the first side of the towel), each cell is located on 3 loops of the base.

But while tying the second side of the towel, I had to pull the edge together. Therefore, each cell is placed on 4 loops of the base (more details in the diagram and in the video). Total, 18 cells. This means that when knitting the 3rd P, you need to skip not 2, but 3 VP bases. Otherwise, the harness will be too high and the towel may touch the floor.

When the last row (16 STsN) is completed, the thread needs to be broken and the STbN tied.

Particular attention should be paid to the corners: to get a clear corner, you need to knit 3 sts from the top of the outermost sts.

Knitting loops:

1. Attach the working thread to one of the corners.
2. * Perform 3 VP, then in the first loop, knit 2 “lush column” of 2 STs*. Repeat the described algorithm 19 times (20 columns in total).
3. Attach the top of the last “lush column” to the second corner of the towel, cut the thread and secure the tail.

That's it, the tied kitchen towel as a gift is ready. All that remains is to hide all the tails and spray the product with steam.

As I already mentioned, I usually hide the ponytails with a needle.

Only this method can provide a satisfactory level of quality. As a result, it is not at all visible where the threads were threaded and where the knots are located. Even after washing, the ponytails don't show.

Strapping options

Since I used cotton to make my own gifts, I can iron the towel with a clear conscience. If you doubt the safety of the pattern, you can cover it with a damp cloth (for example, a pillowcase) and then iron it.

How to fold and pack a gift

Goal: get a smooth and perfectly flat edge. The hook gives a fairly tight pattern, so I'm not afraid of it stretching.

How to pack gifts with your own hands

I was once lucky enough to purchase an impressive stack of gift bags.

They cost mere pennies, but they helped me out more than once. I recommend this option to everyone; it is suitable for packaging a wide variety of items: from candies to a notepad.

You can pack one tied towel, a set of napkins and towels, or select related accessories. I think sets of towels with soap, hair brushes, manicure sets, face and hair masks, and other combinations would look good.

If you purchased not bags, but packaging “mica” in a roll, then you will need a stapler for packaging.

Handle holder:
- the towel holder handle has 3 holes and 2 buttons, which makes it universal and suitable for any type of fastening. For example, a towel in a holder can be hung on a hook, on a ring holder, on a door handle or the handle of a kitchen stove.
Turn the holder base right side out. From the stitches of the cast-on edge of the base (chain of 12 ch - see 1st row of the base), cast on a chain of 30 ch:

Next, knit a row of sc, returning along the loops of the chain back to the base of the holder. To attach the chain to the base of the holder, knit 1 dc.
Knit another row of sc in the same way.
In the next row you need to knit the holes for the buttons, for this you need to knit as follows:
- 4 sc, 3 ch and skip 3 sc from the previous row, 7 sc, 3 ch and skip 3 sc from the previous row, 7 sc, 3 ch and skip 3 sc from the previous row, 5 sc 1 sl for attaching to the base.

It is customary to store towels hanging on hooks. However, due to the current variety of such types of fastening, the question arises of which towel hooks to choose. We will talk about this in our article.

On suction cups

Perfect for those who do not want to violate the integrity of the wall. Perfect for the pre-shower area (where there is not too much humidity). But we cannot recommend such holders, since they are rather weak for a large towel – even a dry one.

Velcro

A similar option to the previous one, but more reliable (it is known that suction cup mounts often fall off the wall, dropping everything that was hanging on them). This type is suitable directly for the bathroom.

Screw-on

Using self-tapping screws, bolts and other building elements - such products are universal, but not very popular, as they require violating the integrity of the wall structure.

Do it yourself

At home, you can make your own towel hooks from a variety of materials: stone, wood, leather or even concrete.

However, one of the most popular, affordable and pliable materials is plywood. Making a towel hook from this material is not difficult even for a beginner.

• First you need to sand the plywood to the desired size, after which it needs to be primed. This will be the basis for future fastenings.
• Further, the only limit is your imagination: you can paint the product in your favorite color or apply a design to it. So, you can draw a cute face if the hook is intended for a baby towel.
• Attach the finished base to the wall in a convenient way.

• To create a fastening, you can use a rope (from which you should make a loop), an alligator clip, or even ordinary buttons. You can also make a double hook using 2 fasteners.
