Content

Warm socks are knitted in different ways: with circular knitting needles using the Medjikluk method, on five needles, from the top or from the toe. There are options for sewn socks. The classic method is to knit socks on five knitting needles from a cuff made with an elastic band.

Knitting the cuff and top

If you decide to knit socks on 5 knitting needles according to the description, then you need to know that each craftswoman may have her own number of loops. It all depends on the size, type of yarn, knitting density, thread tension on the finger. To do this, you need to take measurements and knit a sample. Be guided not by the number of loops and rows, but by the width and height in centimeters.

For socks you will need:

  • Wool blend yarn - 100 grams of one color, for example, gray, and the remains of yarn of a different color, for example, blue. Do not use pure wool; the heels and toes on such a product will quickly wear off. The yarn should contain from 20 to 50% synthetics. Knitting children's socks on 5 knitting needles requires less yarn, 50-80 g.
  • A set of toe knitting needles. Of these, one knitting needle will be working, the other four will have loops.
  • Hook. It is useful for hiding the ends of the thread.

Knitting socks on 5 knitting needles begins with a cuff and has the following steps:

  1. Using blue yarn, cast on with a regular cross stitch. Their number will depend on the yarn chosen or your knitting density, but it should be a multiple of four.
  2. Distribute the stitches evenly across the four needles and form a circle.
  3. Knit 2x2 rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 3 rows. Do not break the thread, otherwise you will have to make knots.
  4. Change the thread to gray, knit 4 rows with an elastic band. Don't break the thread.
  5. Change the thread from gray to blue, knit 4 rows.
  6. Make 2 more stripes of gray and blue. Break the blue thread. You should get 5-7 cm. The height can be increased by tying knee socks, or, conversely, reduced as desired.

When the cuff is ready, knit a few more centimeters in the round with gray yarn in stockinette stitch. Here you can also change the height at your discretion. Many craftswomen do not use boring stockinette stitch, but patterns, for example, openwork stripes, braids, jacquard.

Heel pattern

The next stage of knitting will be the heel. Its diagram looks like this:

  1. First you need to untie the heel height. To do this, take stitches from two knitting needles (half stitches) and knit 6-10 rows in stockinette stitch using rotary knitting. To do this, knit these stitches, then turn the knitting over, purl them, turn them over and knit them again, etc. For children's or women's socks, 3-4 cm is enough, for men's socks you need to knit 4-5 cm.
  2. Conditionally divide the number of loops from which you knit the heel into 3 equal parts: one part will be the central one, and two outer ones. As you go through the next knit row, knit together one stitch from the far right and one from the center, and then one from the center and one from the far left. Conventionally, move these loops to the central part.
  3. Make the purl row in the same way.
  4. Repeat until you only have stitches left in the center section.

Main part

You get to the basics. It is knitted in the round using stockinette stitch and has the following algorithm:

  1. Knit the front row of the heel and pick up the loops on the side behind the edge stitches.
  2. Next, knit the reserved stitches from the two needles that were left untouched after the top part.
  3. Cast on a few more stitches from the side of the heel using edge stitches.
  4. Knit the heel stitches.
  5. If the number of loops turns out to be more than at the beginning, then make several gradual decreases.
  6. Continue knitting in the round, evenly distributing the stitches on four needles, to the beginning of the big toe, plus 1-5-2 cm. The length of the base depends on the size of the foot. Don't forget that socks can shrink after washing, so it's better to leave a centimeter in reserve.

The history of hand-knitted socks dates back to the times of ancient Rome. Back then, wearing socks was considered a sign of wealth and cleanliness. And many, many years have passed since then, and knitted socks still remain a warm and favorite “clothing for the legs” in the cold season. This article presents to the attention of needlewomen a selection of master classes in which beginning knitters can learn to knit comfortable and warm socks using simple patterns, and experienced knitters can consolidate and improve their knowledge and skills. The sock models shown here will pleasantly surprise you and delight you with their simplicity of execution, originality and attractiveness.

Beginner knitters should know that you can knit with two needles or with five. If you knit a sock using 5 knitting needles, the product will be one-piece, without seams. Knitting on 2 needles assumes that the product will be sewn together.

We knit warm socks on 2 knitting needles according to the diagrams and descriptions

You can learn how to make these wonderful handmade socks in our master class:

You will need any warm yarn (wool, wool mixture, cashmere) - 100 g, 2 knitting needles No. 2.5 or No. 3.

Knitting cuffs and heels

When casting on loops, count so that their number is a multiple of 4 + 2 edge stitches. In our model, there are 46 loops (44 + 2 edges). Knit 6 cm with a 2x2 elastic band (2 knit, 2 purl). Then proceed to knitting the front stitch (all loops are knitted on the front side and purled on the wrong side). When the total length of the canvas reaches 8-10 cm, start shaping the heel.

Divide the total number of loops, not taking into account the edge loops, into 4 parts (44:4 = 11 loops). The heel will be knitted on the two middle parts. Work 11 + 11 +11 = 33 stitches of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd parts and turn the work. Yarn over the right needle and knit further 11 + 11 = 22 loops (two middle parts). Without finishing 11 loops of the first part, turn the work, yarn over on the right needle and knit the middle parts further. You need to knit the two middle parts in short rows, each time without finishing the 1st loop, and doing yarn overs. Continue knitting until the middle 8 loops remain on the knitting needle.
Next, continue knitting the heel, adding in each row the loops removed in the previous rows and doing yarn overs. It should turn out that 2 yarn overs and 1 loop are knitted together. Continue knitting the socks in this manner until all the heel stitches have been knitted.

Knitting a toe quickly and easily

Divide the total number of loops into 4 parts. Perform decreases as follows: at the end of the 1st part, at the beginning of the 2nd, at the end of the 3rd part, at the beginning of the 4th. Leave 2 knit stitches between the first and second, third and fourth parts. Make decreases 4 times in every 2nd row, and then in every row until the sock covers all your toes. Gather the remaining loops onto a thread and pull off. Leave the thread long; it will be useful later for making a seam. It turns out to be a sock like this.

Knit the second sock in the same way. Make a seam. You can sew socks with a needle or crochet.

So you have knitted your first socks on two knitting needles. Next you need to develop your knitting skills. Therefore, let's move on to the second technique.

The videos offered are required viewing.

Master class on knitting neat socks on 5 knitting needles

Socks without seams look much more beautiful and neat. The next master class is intended for knitters who have decided to learn how to knit seamless socks on 5 knitting needles.

Do you like this model of socks? Then don’t waste time and start knitting.

For work, prepare wool or wool blend yarn - 100g, knitting needles No. 3 - 5 pieces.

Making cuffs, heels and toes

Cast on 56 stitches and distribute 14 stitches on each needle.

We knit the cuff in circular rows with 2x2 rib (2 knit stitches, 2 purl stitches) or 1x1 to the length you desire. You can use a thread of a different color and knit several rows with it. Then you will get a colored stripe on the cuff. Next, move on to knitting the heel.

Knitting the heel is done with only two knitting needles. To do this, move the loops from two knitting needles onto one knitting needle and knit a 5 cm strip (15 rows) using stockinette stitch.

1 row. Purl 9 loops (side part), 9 loops (central) and the last 10th loop of the central part together with the 1st side purl, thus decreasing the left side part by one loop. Turn the work around.

2nd row. Knit as follows: * remove the 1st loop (the thread remains behind the work) and knit 8 knit stitches, and knit the last 10th loop of the central part together with the side knit loop with a slant to the left (slip the 10th loop on the right knitting needle, not knitting, we knit the next side one, and then we pull the unknitted loop through it). Turn the work around.

3rd row. Remove the first loop (thread before work) and knit the purl row as follows: 8 purl loops, knit the last loop together with the side purl. Turn knitting.

Row 4 and all subsequent rows are knitted according to the same principle, repeating from * until only 10 loops of the central part remain on the knitting needle.

When the heel is knitted, continue knitting the sock again in circular rows. To do this, cast on 16 loops on the sides of the heel and distribute them onto 2 knitting needles, adding 5 loops to them from the central part of the heel. There should be 21 loops on the bottom of the sock and 14 loops (as it was originally) on the top of the sock.

Proceed to perform the toe, making 1 decrease on each side. To do this, knit the 2 outer knit stitches together with the knitting needles of the lower part. Decrements can be made in each row or every other row, depending on your foot size.

After decreasing the required number of stitches, continue knitting in circular rows in stockinette stitch until the beginning of the thumb. Next, form the toe, making decreases in each row: 2 loops on the right and left, knitting 2 knit stitches together from the top with a slant to the left, 2 knit stitches, 2 knit stitches together. Thus, decrease until there are 4 stitches left. Cut the thread and pull off the remaining loops. Thread the end of the thread to the wrong side.

Knit the second sock in the same way. Congratulations, you did it!

An openwork version with a step-by-step description of our work

Socks, like any other type of clothing, deserve to be not only warm, but also fashionable. The openwork pattern is what will really make the socks stylish and original. This master class will tell you how to knit openwork socks.

The size of the sock model shown in the photo above is 38-39. For knitting you will need cotton/wool yarn - 100 g, grass yarn - 20 g, knitting needles No. 2, No. 2.5.

Patterns. Front stitch: knit front rows with facial loops, purl rows with purl loops.

Garter stitch: knit stitches all rows.

Openwork pattern: Knit in accordance with the pattern in the round, repeating the repeat of 6 loops from the 1st to the 4th row.

Knitting density: 42 circular rows of 30 loops = 10x10 cm.

Cast on 56 stitches with grass thread and knit 6 circular rows in garter stitch. Change the thread to the main one and knit 1 circular row, then add 1 stitch on each needle. You should get 60 loops. Next, knit 14 cm in an openwork pattern according to the pattern. Now knit the loops on knitting needles 1 and 4 1 cm in stockinette stitch (for the heel), and continue knitting the loops on knitting needles 2 and 3 in an openwork pattern. At the same time, distribute the loops as follows: on the 2nd knitting needle, knit 3 stitches. ch., then knit in an openwork pattern from the 4th to 15th loops of the 2nd knitting needle and from the 1st to 11th loops of the 3rd knitting needle.

Knit the remaining 4 stitches on needle 3. Ch. Next, proceed to knitting the heel in the classic way (the process of knitting the heel and toe of the sock is described in detail in the previous section of this article). Once the heel is knitted, continue knitting the sock in the lace pattern in 20cm circular rows (this figure may vary depending on your foot size). Next, knit the toe using stockinette stitch and finish the work.

Knit the second sock similarly to the first.

Selecting the right option for your beloved men

To make your man feel your love and care during the cold season, knit him a pair of warm, cozy socks. It would seem that socks are such a trifle, but it’s nice. Believe me, your loved one will be very grateful to you.

The model of men's socks, which is described in the next master class, is made with an original braid pattern.

The size of this model is 42-43. For knitting you will need yarn six/polyamide - 200 g, stocking needles No. 4.5. Socks are knitted in two threads.

Interesting and simple patterns for men's socks

  1. Facial surface.
  2. Garter stitch.
  3. Braid A (or resp. B) 4 loops wide. Knitting principle: 1st + 2nd circular rows - knit stitches. 3rd round row - leave 2 stitches on the auxiliary needle while working (or before work, respectively), knit 2, then knit stitches from the auxiliary needle. From the 4th to the 6th circular rows - facial loops. Repeat from the 1st to the 6th circular rows.
  4. Braid 1 (or resp. 2) 8 loops wide. Knitting principle: 1st + 2nd circular rows - 1 purl, 6 knits, 1 purl. 3rd round row - 1 purl, 3 stitches left on the auxiliary needle behind (or before) the work, knit 3, then knit stitches from the auxiliary needle, 1 purl. From the 4th to the 6th circular rows - 1 p., 6 knits., 1 p. Repeat from the 1st to the 6th circular rows.
  5. Pattern with diamonds 14 loops wide. Knitting principle: knit the middle 14 loops according to pattern A. In even circular rows, knit all loops according to the pattern. Repeat from the 1st to the 24th circular rows.

Knitting density: 28 rows of 20 stitches in stockinette stitch = 10x10 cm.

We analyze easy step-by-step MK for beginners

Cast on 4 needles for 48 stitches (12 stitches on each needle) and knit with a 3 cm elastic band. In the last circular row you need to evenly add 8 stitches. You should get a total of 56 stitches (14 stitches on each needle). Continue knitting the sock as follows: 4 sts of braid A, 8 sts of braids 1, k1, 8 sts of braids 1, 14 sts of diamonds, 8 sts of braids 2, k1, 8 sts of braids 2, 4 p. braids B. After 48 circular rows from the elastic, make a decrease: on the 1st and 4th knitting needles, 2 p. each and start knitting the heel on 24 loops.

Continue working on the general rules for knitting socks. Knit the outer 3 stitches on both sides of the heel wall in garter stitch and decrease for the instep wedge every 3rd round. After the heel, continue to knit the loops of the 2nd and 3rd needles in braid and diamond patterns, and knit the remaining loops of the 1st and 4th needles in stockinette stitch.

After 22-23 cm from the middle of the heel, decrease 2 loops on the 2nd and 3rd needles. There should be 48 loops left. Next, start knitting the toe in stockinette stitch: decrease 1 time in the next 3rd round, 3 times in every 2nd round, and then in each round. When there are 4 loops left on the knitting needles, finish the work, break the thread and tuck it on the wrong side.

If you knit in addition to warm socks, you will get an excellent gift set for your loved one!

We knit warm socks for babies for every day

Children's socks knitted with knitting needles look cute and cute. Socks, unlike booties, are less bulky and fit better on the leg. Under, in the cold season, this is exactly what the baby needs.

In the photo above you see a model of socks for a newborn baby. To make such items you will need soft yarn of medium thickness (baby wool, cashmere or mohair), a set of double needles No. 3.

Let's look at the step-by-step master class

Cast on 32 stitches and distribute them evenly on 4 needles (8 stitches each). Knit 10 cm with 1x1 rib. Such a high elastic band is needed to create a hem. Next, knit 5 cm in stockinette stitch. Start knitting the heel. To do this, divide the total number of loops into two parts (16 + 16), leaving one part on the knitting needles.

Continue knitting the second part of the loops in stockinette stitch on two knitting needles - 10 rows. Now conditionally divide all these loops into 3 parts (5 + 6 + 5). We continue to knit the middle 6 loops according to the heel knitting rule, gradually decreasing the side loops. When the heel is knitted, return to the first part of the loops that remained outside the work.

Knit these 16 stitches, then pick up 5 from the side heel stitches, knit 6 center stitches and then pick up 5 stitches from the other side heel stitch. There should again be 32 loops on the knitting needles. Work 5cm rounds in stockinette stitch on the arches of the feet. Next, make decreases for the toe: on each knitting needle, knit the first 2 loops together. When there are 4-2 loops left on the knitting needles, cut the thread and tighten the loops.

You can use any patterns for such things. For example, in this particular model the heel is knitted with a 1x1 elastic band. The stockinette stitch can be replaced with garter stitch, but this is a matter of your taste. The video is a must watch for beginners.

We create models for teenagers using the same principles

Socks for older children are knitted using the same principle. You just need to take the measurements correctly and calculate the loops. Knitting socks on 5 needles for beginners

For socks, one standard skein of thread will be enough. Even if the size of the socks large - you can always find leftover yarn for finishing with colored stripes.

For short socks you need 150 g, for long socks - 200 g

Preparatory stage

We need a set of 5 knitting needles, since we will knit the sock in the classic way: from the top to the toe.

For example, we will knit size 27 men's socks. The set will be 64 loops. Below is a step-by-step description of the process.

Step 1

We knit the sock cuff. It is usually 5-6 cm. To do this, distribute 16 stitches onto 4 knitting needles and begin knitting a 2X2 elastic band: knit 2 stitches and purl 2 stitches. We knit in the round. So knit 5 cm. Next you need to move to the front stitch and knit everything only with knit stitches for another 10 cm.

Step 2

We knit the heel. Let's start shaping the heel. To do this, take half the loops on one knitting needle (32 pcs.) and knit them only in stockinette stitch: all with knit stitch only.

You need to knit 6 cm. Then we divide the loops into 3 parts as follows:

side – 11 sts, central part – 10 sts

We start decreasing from the purl row. We knit 2 parts of loops - side 11 and central 9. Knit the 10th central one together with the side adjacent to it. Turn the work and remove the first loop from the front side unknitted. And remove the last central one, then knit the first side one and pull it through the removed central one. Turn the work around. Decrease in this manner until all side loops are closed. Only 10 central ones will remain on the spoke. Now you need to cast on 11 sts along the side edges of the heel, and continue knitting, distributing the central ones into 5 pcs. to the sides.

Step 3

We knit the foot. When all 4 knitting needles are used, we simply continue knitting in the round using stockinette stitch. If you want the sock to fit tighter, you can make a decrease at the heel by knitting two loops together on both sides, then on 2 knitting needles instead of 16 stitches there will be 15 pcs.

The formation of the foot is performed up to the little toe. Then they proceed to decrease.

Step 4

Knitting a toe. To do this, we perform a decrease according to the following scheme:

So decrease every other row until there are 8 pieces left on the knitting needles. After that, go to decrease in each row. When there is 1 piece left. on each knitting needle, combine them by 2, knit 2 together and the last 2 pcs. close. Pull the thread to the wrong side and fasten. Or you can close the last 4 loops by pulling the thread through them.

We will knit the second sock in the same way as described above..

This is a classic way of knitting not only socks, but stockings and golf.

We have made good quality men's socks, which are usually knitted from camel wool. Caring housewives, when knitting men's and children's socks, add additional synthetic thread to the heel and toe for strength.

For women's socks, you usually need to cast on 11-13 loops per knitting needle; for children's socks, 8 to 10 loops are enough.

More information about the classic method can be found in many video lessons on the Internet.

Today there are many video master classes on knitting with non-standard execution of socks.

Let's consider a description of another simpler method of knitting a sock on 2 knitting needles.

Knitting socks on 2 knitting needles

With this method we get neat, beautiful socks, which, despite the seam at the top, do not differ at all from those knitted in a circle. And the knitting method itself is simpler and more convenient than using 4 knitting needles.

We knit women's socks, for this we dial 52 p.

Sequence of work

  1. We knit an elastic band. Remove 1 stitch, then follow the pattern *2L, P2*, the last one is knit

You need to knit an odd number of rows, we have 17.

We sew the sock itself differently. On the front side we thread the thread under the horizontal thread of the loop. You can see this stitching pattern in more detail in the video tutorial.

The result should be a sock, in which the seam is completely invisible. But you can sew such a sock, decorating it with colored trim.

Both of the above methods are very easy to implement. You can try both options, choosing, for example, the classic circular method for knitting men's socks, and the second method for children's socks, which makes it possible to decorate the sock along the seam to your liking.

Have fun.

Features of knitting socks for men, women and children. Varieties of knitted socks, patterns.

Since ancient times, handicrafts have inspired women to create beautiful and good things for themselves and their families. In addition to visual appeal, each item contained a piece of the energy of the needlewoman herself. Therefore, it had the power to warm in the cold, cool in the heat and protect from illness.

The needlewoman herself:

  • focused on creativity
  • listened to myself
  • communicated with like-minded people
  • calmed down
  • filled with feminine energy during classes
  • was fueled by the moon, because she worked in the evening and at night

In this article, let's talk in more detail about the techniques of knitting the necessary and warm thing - socks.

Knitted socks for beginners

Before starting to knit socks, beginning needlewomen should prepare the following materials:

  • knitting needles of the required diameter 5 pcs. When choosing them, be guided by the thickness of the thread
  • 100-300 grams of yarn depending on the size of the socks. Both natural threads and acrylic are suitable
  • 20-60 grams of yarn of a different color to decorate the sock
  • soft tape measure or ruler for taking measurements
  • An easy-to-follow guide for knitting socks for the first time

For beginner needlewomen, it is better to choose the method of knitting socks from top to bottom - from the shin to the toes.

  • Measure your foot at its widest point. Multiply the resulting value by 1.5-1.9 depending on the width of the thread. The thicker it is, the smaller the number you multiply by
  • This is the number of loops and cast on the knitting needles, followed by an even distribution on them
  • Knit a 1x1 or 2x2 elastic band of such a height that is acceptable for you
  • You can insert yarn of a different color into the work one or more times to decorate the work.
  • Leave the first and second knitting needles with loops aside temporarily, and from the third and fourth loops we will create the heel of the product
  • Knit straight fabric with knit and purl 6-9 cm depending on size
  • Then divide the working loops into three and knit only the middle ones, gradually adding the side ones - in each row only one side
  • When all the side stitches are completed, you will have a toe heel and fewer stitches than you cast on.
  • Knit only the front rows and pick up stitches from the heel edges so that their number becomes equal to the original
  • Until the top of the little finger, continue working with a continuous canvas. You can insert several rows of thread of a different color
  • Start decreasing stitches at the beginning of the first and third needles one at a time, and also at the end of the second and fourth needles every other row. To do this, knit two loops together
  • When there are half as many stitches left as there were initially, decrease stitches in each row.
  • Connect the last 8 loops with thread, passing it through them. Hide the tail of the thread inside the product
  • Follow similar steps to knit the second sock.

Knitted openwork socks

Just as women’s imagination is multifaceted and varied, there are also a large number of options for knitting socks.

For example, openwork light socks for cool weather and demi-season shoes should definitely be in the wardrobe of every fashionista. They look original and keep your feet warm.

There are also several approaches to knitting openwork socks:

  • classical
  • step-by-step with separate knitting of the upper and lower parts of the sock
  • according to the booties pattern, when the knitting progress goes from top to bottom vertically
  • on 5 spokes
  • using 2 knitting needles

Needlewomen choose the following drawings as patterns:

  • leaves
  • diamonds
  • zigzags
  • braids with openwork branches
  • twigs
  • flowers

All you need is:

  • choose your favorite scheme
  • define rapport - this is a repeating part of the pattern
  • perform control knitting of straight fabric to determine the knitting density
  • knit your own socks
  • To increase the wear time of openwork socks, work the heel, feet and toes with facial loops
  • Use the knitting technique given in the previous section as a basis.
  • And for inspiration, look at the finished openwork products in the photos presented in the following sections of the article

Knitted socks in enterlac style

Knitting small square or rectangular fragments and then knitting the next fragment from one side is called enterlac.

This technique is attractive because it allows you to combine different colors in an unusual way, and will also appeal to needlewomen who have a lot of small yarn scraps.

  • The direction of movement of work in the enterlac style for knitting socks is from the toe up to the shin
  • Knitting begins with a square of 5 loops per 10 rows, made in one color
  • From the edge loops on its left side, cast on 5 more loops and knit a similar fragment
  • Then either insert another color, or repeat the steps for two more squares
  • Be careful when connecting a new square to an already connected one. First, pull the loop out of the edge, and then pull it through the outer loop of the adjacent fragment
  • Continue until you need to add 7 squares around the circle. This means that the knitting has leveled off and then you need to add this number of fragments with different thread colors
  • Crochet the edge of the product with single crochets or crab step
  • Follow the same steps for knitting the second sock.

Knitted baby socks, patterns

It often happens that when a young mother has a baby in the house, her hands naturally gravitate towards needlework. She feels the desire to create a practical and beautiful thing for the baby herself, rather than buying a ready-made one in a store.

In the cold season or in the absence of floor heating, the child’s feet need warmth. And the socks you created will be a good solution.

Below are several patterns for knitting baby socks. Get inspired and enjoy your health!

Knitted men's socks, patterns

Men value practicality in clothes, and comfort and durability in socks.

For example, you can extend the life of socks if you add a strong thread to the main yarn in the heel, foot and toe area, or just the heel and toe.

Knowing the size and volume of the leg in a wide area, follow the algorithm described above for knitting men's socks.

If you want to diversify and add zest to the product, add:

  • stripes
  • elastic band along the entire length of the product
  • geometric figures
  • “corn” or “rice” knitting
  • stripes of a different color
  • appropriate ornaments

For inspiration, here are several patterns for knitting men's socks.

Knitted women's socks, patterns

Needlewomen delight themselves with the most intricate and original socks.

In addition to classic warm and ornate openwork models, women like socks with:

  • drawings
  • ornaments
  • rhinestones, beads

Beautiful knitted socks with ornaments, patterns

Ornaments on knitted items are associated with snow, bitter frosts and snowdrifts.

Needlewomen prefer to embroider the ornament on the finished product using a needle or hook. To do this, they use diagrams or come up with ornamental drawings on their own.

Several patterns for knitted socks are provided below for inspiration.

Knitted socks-boots, patterns

Before you start knitting socks and boots, decide:

  • how will you wear them - as house shoes or as an underwear for winter shoes
  • how often to wear them and how long to wear them - daily or periodically, in the evening after work or several days a week

The answers to these questions depend on:

  • drawing
  • thread thickness
  • sole of the product - made during knitting or ready-made leather/felt, which should be sewn on

Needlewomen create socks and boots using different techniques:

  • as a single piece that knits like a sock
  • in parts, for example, separately knit a relief patterned boot and separately the heel and foot
  • step by step, knitting individual parts of the boot, which are then sewn together at the back along the shin and below along the sole

To knit any socks you like, new models with patterns and descriptions given below in the article, you need to understand the principle of their execution. The following is a detailed description with photos of the easiest way to knit socks. designed to work on 5 knitting needles. If you learn how to knit the simplest socks using this principle, then you will be able to knit any handmade masterpiece.

Sock knitting pattern with description and photo

The description given is intended for beginners. The socks are made from regular yarn on five knitting needles. The socks are knitted from the top, from the top.

To work on a pair of socks we will need:

  • threads of any thickness and any shade;
  • five knitting needles with open ends on both sides.

Let's get started. Everything is simple here, the main thing is to understand the sequence of actions:

  1. First you need to calculate the number of loops. To do this, measure the circumference of the leg at the thinnest point, knit a sample and calculate. In our case, this is 52 loops. We cast on all the loops on two knitting needles, and then distribute them equally among 4 knitting needles. We will knit with the fifth knitting needle.

  1. Usually there is an elastic band at the beginning of the sock, so we knit several rows, alternating purl and knit stitches.
  2. Now we knit with the pattern planned according to the model. It can be openwork, braids and arans, jacquard or simply smooth surface. Thus, we work to the desired shin height.

  1. Now is the most difficult moment for beginners. Knitting heels. To do this, we take into work only those loops that are on two knitting needles, leaving the other two knitting needles alone for a while. We distribute the loops from two knitting needles equally into three, the remainder can be added to the central knitting needle.
  2. Turn the work inside out and knit 2/3 parts. At the same time, we knit the last loop of the first knitting needle and the first loop of the second knitting needle together.

  1. Now we unfold the work and knit in the same way, only we draw it in at the junction of the first and middle knitting needles, as if we were throwing the outer loop onto the loop from the other knitting needle. We work like this until all the loops from these knitting needles are closed.
  2. We cast on loops along the edge of the heel and distribute all the existing loops (and from the put aside knitting needles) equally onto four knitting needles and knit the middle part of the foot.

  1. We simply knit with facial loops or according to the pattern. To make the knit tighter, you can make decreases in the center of the foot by knitting together two loops from each edge of the foot three times in each round. We knit this way until the beginning of the bevel for the toe.

  1. To reduce the bevel of the sock, we knit two loops together on both sides. You need to knit the second and third stitches together on the corresponding knitting needles.
  2. Decrease until there are four stitches left. We tie them together with thread.

Using this description you can knit any socks. Further in the article we will look at new models of knitted socks with diagrams and descriptions.
