Pearl makeup. Makeup with shiny, crumbly shadows

Eyeshadow is a rather difficult product to use, and if you know how to apply it correctly, then you have almost reached the heights of makeup. In fact, using shadows is not at all difficult if you remember 10 useful life hacks.

How to use eye shadow

1. Even out your tone

Before you start applying eye makeup, you need to even out your skin tone. Very often, small capillaries are visible on the eyelids or there is a slightly greenish tint. To prevent these imperfections from ruining your make-up, you can use a regular foundation - the same one you apply all over your face. The main thing here is not to overdo it - one small drop of a light product is enough for the moving eyelid.

2. Use a base

This is not the first time we’ve said this and we won’t get tired of repeating it: it doesn’t matter what kind of shadow you have, it’s important what base you use for it. Even the most inexpensive shadows will last with a good primer. You need to use it immediately after you have applied foundation, adjusting the skin tone of your eyelids. However, there are 2-in-1 shadow bases that cope with two tasks - they correct the shade and help the shadows not crumble. For example, the Lancôme or Urban Decay brands have just such a primer.

3. Buy cream eyeshadow

Many girls are afraid to use cream shadows, but in vain! They are the ones that can last much longer than crumbly ones. Moreover, with creamy textures the problem of shedding does not exist at all. Here are some things you should know about cream eyeshadow:

  • They can be used as a base. You simply fill the entire space of the moving eyelid with cream shadows of the desired shade, and then correct the makeup with crumbly ones - highlight the outer corners with a darker color, and the inner ones with a lighter color. Ready!
  • Apply them with your fingers. The creamy texture applies best if you use your fingertips rather than a brush. The fact is that the warmth of your hands warms up the product and helps it “open up” - as a result, the shadows are applied more evenly and do not roll off.

4. Choose the right shade of beige

Beige shadows will save you in a situation where you have almost no time for makeup. To create the simplest nude makeup, you only need a corrector, a base and “those” beige shadows. If we have dealt with the first two points, then finding “your” shade of eyeshadow is not so easy. Follow simple rules: if you have dark skin, then buy beige eye shadow with a peach undertone.

If the skin of the eyelids has a slightly lilac tint, then you can “cover” it with yellow-beige shadows. We advise white-skinned girls to stick to sandy shades, but pinkish-beige suits everyone! In the event that you are not sure that you can choose the right color for yourself, choose pale pink.

5. Powder under your eyes

Before you start applying eye shadow, prepare the area under your eyes - correct your skin color with concealer, and then apply a generous layer of powder. The fact is that when you use dark shadows, there is bound to be something left under your eyes. If you start removing the shadows with a cotton pad, you’ll also wipe off the concealer, which means you’ll have to start all over again. If you powder this problem area well, then you can easily brush off the crumbled shadows with a soft brush along with the powder.

6. Choose the shade of eyeshadow to suit your color type

It is better to choose the color of the shadows according to the color type of your appearance, and not according to the color of your eyes - then the makeup will look more solid and complete.

How to choose shadows

  • "Winter" girl with dark eyes, dark hair and fair skin, you should take a closer look at cool shades of shadows. Perhaps this is the only color type that suits blue, plum, and dark green. But you should avoid coffee and chocolate shades of eyeshadow.
  • If you are girl spring" with blond hair, slightly darker eyebrows and light eyes (green, gray, blue), then your shades of shadows should be warm - peach, brown, green. However, if we are talking about cool shades, then choose light lilac or even blue.
  • “Summer” for a girl(light or brown-ash hair, blue, gray-blue or green eyes) all gray shades of shadows, blue-gray, lilac, light gold are suitable.
  • And finally, "autumn" girl(with red, brown, copper hair and dark gray, green and brown eyes) should pay attention either to shades that match the color type (gold, bronze, ocher, peach), or to completely contrasting colors. For example, plum, purple and bright green shadows are perfect for you. And under no circumstances use blue ones - this is definitely not your story.

7. Use pearlescent shadows (yes, this is not a joke!)

Many girls avoid pearlescent shadows - of course, because women's publications intimidated us with them, promising that such shadows would definitely look terrible. In fact, your arsenal should include satin and pearlescent textures. How to use pearlescent shadows? You can easily highlight the inner corner of your eye with light shadows with shimmer - this is a classic makeup trick that really works. In addition, they are useful for the area under the eyebrow - a slight shine here will not harm anyone. But it’s really not worth painting over the moving eyelid with pearlescent shadows - not every professional can do this, so it’s better not to risk it.

8. Work with the shape of the eyes

We all strive for an almond-shaped eye shape, and if nature has not awarded it with one, you can easily achieve it with the help of makeup. And shadows are your best assistant in this matter!

The problem of the impending century needs to be solved exclusively with matte shadows - mother-of-pearl is contraindicated in this. Highlight the upper eyelid itself, which droops slightly, using shadows of medium intensity, and fill in the fold between the upper and moving eyelids with a dark shade.

If your eyes are wide apart, then you need to darken the outer corners of the eyes without going beyond the boundaries of the eyelid. That is, you darken it with matte or shiny shadows from the middle of the moving eyelid to its outer edge, in no case extending the line like an arrow.

With eyes that are set close together, you need to do exactly the opposite: stretch dark shadows from the middle of the eyelid towards the temples using an angled brush. And highlight the inner corners of the eyes with light pearlescent shadows - then the distance between the eyes will visually increase.

If the outer corners of the eyes look down, then, firstly, do not highlight the lower eyelid with dark shadows and, secondly, work with the upper eyelid. Apply dark shadows of any texture from the outer corner upwards, towards the eyebrows.

9. Use at least three shades of eyeshadow

Basic eye makeup consists of three shades - which is why most ready-made palettes have just three of them. The simplest make-up is done in three stages:

  • First, apply the middle shade to the moving eyelid, completely filling it with shadows.
  • Highlight the outer corners of your eyes with the darkest shade. It can also be used for the lower eyelid, as well as for the folds between the movable and upper eyelids. By the way, in this case it is better to use a rounded brush made of natural bristles.
  • Highlight the inner corner of the eye with the lightest shade. Ready!

10. Master wet eyeshadow application

Wet application of shadows differs from the usual dry application only in that you work with a wet brush. It is this technique that will allow you to save money and turn eyeshadow for daytime makeup into evening makeup.

When applied wet, an angled brush can turn dark shadows into eyeliner—apply them to the lash line and blend. This technique works for smoky eyes and you don't even need a pencil.

If you just want to achieve a more saturated shade, then wet a round brush with water and apply shadows in the same way as you usually do. It is worth noting that this method is more suitable for glitter shadows than for matte ones.

Thanks to these life hacks, you should no longer have questions about how to use eyeshadow. And if you still have questions, ask them in the comments!

Types of eye shadow

Eye shadow is the most important element of makeup. With their help you can correct them, make them larger and more expressive. This requires correct application techniques and basic knowledge about the types of products and their textures. Let's find out the differences between different eye shadows.

Compact eyeshadow

Compact eyeshadows are the most common type of eyeshadows. In their production, pigments are mixed with binders and pressed together. Today, the beauty market offers a huge selection of compact shadows: different colors, textures, durability. Recently, large palettes have come into fashion - they are convenient to take with you on trips and experiment with makeup (read about how to choose a suitable palette).

Shadow pencil

Shadow pencil is a salvation for those who have just begun to master this category of makeup products. They should be applied directly with a stick, thickly painting the eyelids. As a rule, pencil shadows are less pigmented than other types, so they can be distributed without fear of going overboard with the intensity of the shade. It is convenient to shade the color directly with your finger. Pencil shadows are especially good for those who are unable to achieve the smokey eye technique: a smoky effect can be created in two minutes by running the stick along the upper and lower edges of the eyelashes. And you're done!

Cream eyeshadow

Cream shadows are especially appreciated by makeup fans, because they blend as closely as possible with the texture of the skin. Unfortunately, most such soft products are not very durable and tend to quickly slide down in the folds of the eyelid. In this case, stock up on a good primer - it will help preserve your makeup until the evening.

Of course, there are also ultra- and even waterproof cream shadows. Of course, it is not necessary to apply a base underneath them. You can apply cream shadows either with brushes with artificial bristles or with your fingers: whatever is convenient for you. See our video for different options on how to apply cream eyeshadow.

Baked eyeshadow

Baked eyeshadow is a mixture of mineral pigments that are subsequently baked in a special way. So, the moisture evaporates, but all the minerals, pigments and shimmering particles remain. In appearance, baked shadows are not too different from classic powder shadows. The whole difference is visible upon application. They can be applied dry or wet. In the first case, they are slightly shiny, in the second, they create a foil effect on the eyelids.

Mineral eye shadow

Mineral shadows are made by micronizing or crushing minerals such as iron oxides, talc, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide into tiny particles. Mineral shadows gained popularity in the 1970s in America, when naturalness was at the height of fashion.

Today, the demand for mineral cosmetics is not subsiding. Its difference is that it does not contain a number of ingredients: emollient oils and waxes, fragrances and preservatives found in conventional formulas.

Mineral shadows are always released only in crumbly form. Their intensity may vary depending on the manufacturer brand.

Loose eye shadow

Loose shadows are similar to classic pressed ones, except that the pigments in them are not mixed with any binders. That’s why they have a loose, powdery consistency. Loose shadows are sold in miniature jars. Such products are especially loved by professional makeup artists. After all, with their help you can achieve any color intensity. It is recommended to apply them with a brush.

Liquid eye shadow

Liquid shadows are new to the beauty market. This formula has not been around for very long, but is already loved by many. Outwardly, they resemble lip gloss: a similar tube packaging and applicator for application. They often contain microparticles with glitter, creating a beautiful shimmering effect on the eyelids. When it comes to application, liquid shadows are one of the simplest: they do not crumble and are easy to shade.

Pearlescent or shimmery shadows

Many people today mistakenly consider pearlescent shadows to be outdated, remembering the fashion for them in the 1990s. However, modern formulas are a completely different story: they no longer have a foil-like shine, and the choice in shades has become much wider.

Pearlescent shadows are an excellent option for beginners in makeup, because they can be easily shaded and can be easily combined with any other textures.

Shimmering shadows are distinguished by the presence of small sparkles. Their base itself can be anything from shiny to matte. Both types of shadows, due to their radiance, look more appropriate in the evening under artificial lighting.

Matte eyeshadow

Among all types of shadows, matte ones look most natural (when using nude shades): they do not contain shiny particles, so they look like powder on the eyelids. But they are also the hardest to apply: their dry formula is difficult to blend.

Which matte eyeshadow is better to choose?

  • When choosing matte shadows, be sure to apply them to your fingertips and blend them onto the back of your hand. The best ones will be those whose texture most closely matches the description “silky”: such shadows will shade well and look natural.
  • It is better to set aside excessively dry shadows that resemble chalk in consistency.
  • Today, every beauty brand produces matte eyeshadow palettes that include four shades or more. The color combinations for them are selected by professional makeup artists, which means that each shade can be worn individually or mixed together.

Makeup with matte shadows

Matte shadows in soft earth tones or pastels are ideal for daytime makeup: they look natural and discreet. When creating evening makeup, pay attention to dark or rich colors: with these, the smokey eye effect looks especially good.

Matte shadows are also very convenient for making arrows: just moisten the brush with water and the matte texture will turn into a super-pigmented one, suitable for drawing lines. For more information on how to repeat this trick, watch our video tutorial:

Glitter eyeshadow

Glitter has been an undeniable trend for the last few seasons. For those who do not risk immediately applying glitter to their eyelids, as catwalk makeup artists did at shows, there is a safer option - eyeshadow with glitter.

An important point: the sparkles should be of medium size - not too small, otherwise there is a risk that it will look like a mother-of-pearl effect, but not too large.

Shiny shadows can be relevant day and evening. One condition: in daytime makeup, glitter should be the only accent on the face. Take an example from the models: a clean, as if unmade-up face, and glitter on the eyelids - with such makeup they look fresh and unpretentious.

How to replace the eyeshadow base?

The eye shadow base is the most important stage of eye makeup. It greatly enhances the shade of the shadows and guarantees their durability, and also works as a primer, hiding wrinkles and preventing the shadows from settling into the crease of the eyelid. In addition, the product perfectly mattifies the skin of the eyelids and prevents shadows from creasing throughout the day or evening. If you don’t have a special foundation on hand, use loose powder: spread it over your eyelids and apply shadow on top. This way they will last longer.

Shadow shading technique

To make your eyes more expressive, there is a basic principle for shading shadows:

First of all, determine your upper eyelid crease. The lightest shade is usually applied from the top lash line to the crease. Along the crease line, distribute the color a shade or two darker: it will make the crease more pronounced and add volume.

If you have a droopy upper eyelid and the crease is too low, blend the medium shade of eyeshadow a few millimeters above the crease. So, you will artificially lift the movable eyelid and make your eyes larger.

Using the same medium tone, lightly darken the outer corners of the upper eyelids: blend from the outer edge to the inner, bringing the brush to the middle of the eyelid. If we are talking about evening makeup, add a darker color to the crease and outer corner of the eyes.

  • An important point: makeup beginners often press the brush too hard, pressing it against the skin. This should not be done: all professional makeup artists use light, barely touching movements with the brush. Take your time, do everything step by step: proper shading requires a few minutes more time, but the result will impress you.

The last step is to sweep the same medium shade of shadow along the lower eyelid under the lash line.

  • A beautiful touch: with light shadows with sparkles, you can put a small accent in the middle of the upper eyelid and in the inner corner of the eyes - such a highlight will instantly make your look younger. The shades you use may vary, but the principle of shading remains the same.
  • Recently, monochrome eyelid makeup has come into fashion. He will not be able to adjust the shape and size of the eyes, but he looks original and fresh. For this look, you can even apply shadows with your fingers: spread one shade of shadow over the upper eyelid – matte or shimmery. Blend the edges of the color slightly. If desired, do the same with the lower eyelid. Ready!

What brushes are needed for eye makeup? 5 types

© site

Today, brushes for shading shadows can be found in the arsenal of almost all brands. For beginners, two types will be enough for the first time - a medium flat brush and a slightly fluffy one for shading. The first one will be able to distribute the color, the second one, of course, will carefully smooth out the tones among themselves and soften the edges. Select the bristles of your brushes in accordance with what kind of shadows you prefer: for cream shadows you need synthetic hairs, for powder ones - natural ones.

Basic eyeshadow brush

The brush has soft bristles and a rounded tip, ideal for applying and distributing eyeshadow. Its tip should be smaller than the size of your eyelid. Make sure that when working with a moving eyelid, the shadows are distributed evenly and the brush does not scratch the skin.

Blending brush

Elongated, rounded and fluffy, not too dense and more “loose” compared to the basic eyeshadow brush. Use it to blend out eye shadow or eyeliner, create a smoky look on your eyelids, or blend multiple shades.

Domed brush

These brushes allow you to pick up more pigment. Designed to blend shadows in the area under the eyebrow or along the lash line. This is convenient for creating clearer boundaries between two shades, as well as for blending cream and gel textures: concealer under the eyebrow, pencil along the eyelashes, cream shadows.

Eyelid crease brush

A small, dense brush with a slightly pointed tip is convenient for applying and blending eyeshadow in the crease of the eyelid. It is easy for her to blend the eyeliner along the eyelid or make brighter, more precise and darker accents in the crease.

Angled eyeshadow brush

If we are talking about a brush made of natural bristles, it will be useful for emphasizing the eyelash lines with shadows and for shading eyebrow shadows. If you have a synthetic bristle option, you can use this brush to fill in the missing hairs when making up your eyebrows.

Women know that with the help of cosmetics, you can completely change your image. Using eye shadow, you can make your look mysterious, alluring, open and defenseless. Shadows have many different benefits. The main thing is that the woman knows how to use them correctly. A professional makeup artist can create the image of a beautiful stranger so that the makeup on your face will be completely invisible. Everything depends not only on skill, but also on correctly selected cosmetics. In this article we will look at how to choose shadows.

Composition of shadows

Basically, shadows contain talc, paraffin, zinc and titanium white, perfume oils, as well as a wide variety of dyes, such as soot, ocher, yellow pigment, ultramarine, etc. There are several forms of shadows:

  • dry,
  • liquid,
  • creamy,
  • in the form of a pencil.

Each girl must decide for herself which shadows are best. For example, if you wear contact lenses, then creamy shadows are ideal. They will not crumble and irritate your eyes. The most widely used option is dry eyeshadow. They are practical and easy to apply. But as for the liquid form, these shadows are used mainly by professionals, because... In order to do high-quality makeup using liquid shadows, you need to have special skills.

How shadows work

Professional makeup artists, when doing makeup, practice mixing different shades of eye shadow. All you need to do is have in your makeup bag just a few shades that suit you and help make your eyes expressive and your face bright.

It should be taken into account that light shining shades make a woman’s gaze open, and dark ones, in turn, help emphasize the eyes and make them more expressive. Using them, you can even change the shape of your eyes.

Choosing the shade of the shadows

Considering which shadows are good and which are not so good, we could not help but touch upon the topic of choosing a shade.

When purchasing shadows, you need to be guided by several factors:

  • skin tone;
  • eye color;
  • eye shape;
  • age;
  • style and color of clothing.

Let's look at each factor in more detail. So:

  • The first rule in creating good makeup is that the skin color should match the shade of the shadows. For women with dark skin, light shades are not entirely suitable, as they will not look natural.
  • Let's see what shades suit blue-eyed women. It will definitely be all shades of gray, as well as steel, pink, white, brick, purple. Green-eyed women should use all shades of green, as well as copper, brown, coral, and ivory. For women with brown eyes, all shades of brown, purple, dark green, and beige are ideal.
  • The shape of the eyes also plays an important role when choosing shadows. For example, if a woman has small, expressionless eyes with dark circles around them, then she should under no circumstances use dark shadows. In such cases, use light warm colors. They make the eyes more expressive.
  • When choosing a shade, a woman should also be guided by her age category. Older women should try to avoid cold, saturated shades and bright colors, as they have the ability to emphasize age and all the fine wrinkles around the eyes. At this age, matte, neutral tones are more suitable. For example, champagne or peach color. They perfectly mask minor defects. If a woman has puffy eyelids, then when applying makeup, brown shadows should be applied to the middle of the eyelids. They will give your look expressiveness and depth.

Pearlescent or matte?

Eyeshadows come in matte or pearlescent. Each of these types has its own disadvantages and advantages.

Matte shadows

Using these shadows to create an image, you can create a barely noticeable daytime or catchy, languid, evening makeup. Matte shadows apply very easily to the skin of the eyelids and can be used even by women who do not master makeup techniques. You can apply them over the entire eyelid or simply highlight the contour of the eyes.

Pearlescent shadows

Using pearlescent shadows to create your desired look, you add shine and shine to your look. Most often, such shadows are used to create evening makeup. But there is one caveat. It is better for older women not to use them, as they have the ability to emphasize fine wrinkles and even minor blemishes on the skin.

Now you know which shadows to choose from the entire huge range, and you can look stunning. When purchasing eye shadow, always pay attention to the brand and quality of the product. Good and high-quality shadows will never, under any circumstances, roll or crumble. They will make you look great all day long.

If you like black shadows and MAC, then welcome to the cat.

I am a cosmetic maniac and I absolutely love eyeshadow. I'm usually drawn to bright and unusual shades. And today’s review is exactly about this.

Professional brand MAS is rich in various decorative products for the eyelids.

My shadows are from the fall 2013 collection, which has a total of 12 shades, including this one.

MAC Pressed Pigment Jet Couture

-Package The standard for the brand is a black cardboard box with all the information, and in it there is a plastic round with shiny inclusions in it.

-Weight 3 grams of shadows, no fragrance at all.

-Texture The shadows are very interesting - in the packaging they seem dry, but as soon as you touch them with a brush you can immediately see that they are somehow moist and creamy.

-Color black, but only in the packaging; in general, these shadows are real chameleons, shimmering in various shades of black, turning into khaki. They look very voluminous and festive on the eyelids.

Top photo is daylight at a certain shooting angle, bottom photo is with flash

-Apply It is best to apply them with your finger or a brush with artificial bristles using driving movements, otherwise not even a hundredth part of their beauty and splendor will be visible. And if you use the wet method, you can completely go blind from their shine and radiance.

Shadows absolutely weightless on the eyelid and do not cause me any discomfort when worn. Due to the peculiarity of the texture, I would advise before applying them to use something to protect against glitter, which crumbles and settles on the face, or use tone and concealer after eye makeup.

-Hold on They last for me until they are removed, they don’t crease, but I always use a base under the shadows, without it I don’t wear any shadows with my drooping eyelids.

This color, of course, is not an everyday option (although it depends). But

in the evening you will be irresistible with it if you are not afraid of such bright and dark colors).

No, on the contrary, I’m attracted to everything unusual and unusual in makeup. So more black, red, blue and green eyeshadow on the eyelids.

It seems that all the moments have been illuminated, now you can show them in makeup)

I'm not a professional makeup artist, so everyone can decide for themselves exactly how to wear and play with these shadows. I just showed one of the possible options.

Price: about 1500 rubles.

Grade: 5+++++.

Term of use: repeatedly.

Do you wear a lot of eyeshadow and do you wear black?

Sincerely, Elena.
