It is Fridman who owns brands known to most Russians such as Pyaterochka, Beeline and Perekrestok. And Alfa Bank, which is part of Alfa Group, sponsors the Life Line charity foundation, which helps children with serious illnesses.
Net worth: $14.5 billion.
One of the richest Russian entrepreneurs moved from 9th place, which he occupied in the 2016 ranking, to 6th place. This means that the oil company Lukoil, which is controlled by him, is doing more than successfully. In 2016, Alekperov received $590 million in dividends from Lukoil.
Capital - 15.2 billion dollars.
He is the main shareholder of USM Holdings, and this holding controls the mobile operator Megafon, the Kommersant publication, Mail.ru Group and owns the largest mining company in Russia and the CIS countries, Metalloinvest. Recently, the name of Alisher Usmanov was involved in an anti-corruption scandal in connection with an expensive gift - an estate worth $ 5 billion - transferred to the non-profit foundation Sotsgosproekt. This fund belongs to Ilya Eliseev, a classmate of Dmitry Medvedev. Usmanov commented on the part of Alexei Navalny’s investigative film that concerns him, saying that the land plot was transferred as part of an exchange deal for another plot intended for his sister.
Net worth: $16 billion.
More recently, information appeared that Vladimir Putin’s friend and the richest citizen of Finland, Gennady Timchenko (he has Russian-Finnish citizenship), is building an estate in the elite village of Rublyovka. His neighbors will be the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu and Senator Yuri Vorobyov. Timchenko owns the investment group Volga Group.
Capital - $16.1 billion.
The top 3 richest businessmen in Russia are opened by the owner of factories (Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant), steamships (Oka Shipyard, part of the UCL transport holding) and, if not newspapers, but the radio station Business FM. Vladimir Lisin is also the owner of the sports and shooting complex “Fox Hole”. In addition to his fortune, the entrepreneur is known as one of the few billionaires who live long and happily in marriage, without scandals or divorces. His wife Svetlana owns the chamber painting gallery “Seasons” in Moscow. The couple raised three children, but very little is known about them; Lisin prefers not to advertise her personal life.
Net worth: $17.5 billion.
Mordashov owns the steel and mining company Severstal, which in turn owns the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant. This is the second largest steel mill in the Russian Federation. But the 51-year-old's commercial interests are not limited to steel and mining. He has shares and shares in a number of large and prosperous companies, such as the European tourism concern TUI, Rossiya Bank T2RTK Holding, gold mining company Nord Gold, etc.
Capital - $18.4 billion.
For the second year in a row, Mikhelson’s name is at the top of the Forbes list of the richest people in Russia. The current co-owner of the gas company Novatek and chairman of the board of the petrochemical Sibur Holding began his career as a construction foreman for the construction of the first line of the Urengoy-Chelyabinsk gas pipeline. The path from superintendent to leader of the Russian rich took 40 years. However, once at the top, Leonid Mikhelson does not forget about ordinary people. Novatek sponsors a class of gifted children in one of the Novokuibyshev schools, and also provides charitable assistance to the Museum of Fine Arts in Yekaterinburg.

Second place went to the owner of Severstal Alexey Mordashov, his fortune is estimated at $17.5 billion. The third is the owner of the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant (NLMK) Vladimir Lisin with an estimated fortune of $16.1 billion.
There are several fundamental reasons for such a significant increase in the assessment of the wealth of the richest Russians. First of all, from February 12, 2016 to February 17, 2017 (for these dates Forbes took stock quotes to calculate the fortunes of the world's billionaires), the ruble exchange rate increased by 38% (from 79.11 rubles to 57.15 rubles per dollar). The dollar indicator of the stock market, the RTS Index, gained 67% over the same period. These factors have had a significant impact on the dollar valuation of assets.
As a result, “metallurgists” dominate among the entrepreneurs with the highest increase in the valuation of their fortunes: the fortune of NLMK owner Vladimir Lisin increased by $6.8 billion, Severstal owner Alexey Mordashov - by $6.6 billion, Suleiman Kerimov(the basis of his fortune is the shares of the gold mining company Polyus, formally owned by son Said) - by $4.7 billion.
The number of businessmen who maximized their wealth over the year also included representatives of the fuel and energy complex and chemical enterprises - the RTS Oil & Gas and RTS Chemicals indices grew by 53% and 51%, respectively. Largest shareholder of the oil company Lukoil Vagit Alekperov added $5.6 billion in a year, owner of Eurochem Andrey Melnichenko- $5 billion, and partners in the gas company Novatek and petrochemical company Sibur Gennady Timchenko and Leonid Mikhelson - $4.6 billion and $4 billion, respectively.

Thanks to the rapid growth of shares of metallurgical companies, the owner of ChTPZ returned to the rating Andrey Komarov and the main shareholder of Mechel Igor Zyuzin.
The list, like last year, includes three women: Elena Baturina(included in all Forbes lists since 2004), Elena Rybolovleva(who first became a participant in the rating last year after her divorce from her billionaire husband) and the owner of the S7 group of companies, Natalia Fileva. Fileva, a newcomer to the ranking, replaced Olga Belyavtseva, co-owner of the Progress company (FrutoNyanya baby food), in the “women’s team”; she lacked $50 million to get on the list this year.
Forbes also left the ranking of the richest Russian entrepreneurs Konstantin Grigorishin(received Ukrainian citizenship in May 2016) and coal magnate Alexander Shchukin(he is under investigation on charges of extortion).
