For 10 weeks. Maternity consultation and recommendations in the tenth week

The 10th week of pregnancy is an amazing time. It is during this period that incredible metaphors occur with the baby and his mother. Every day of this week, a pregnant woman undergoes intense processes inside, repeating the entire process of evolution. In this material we will talk about this period in more detail.

How many months is this?

9-10 obstetric weeks, which will be discussed, may be regarded differently by a woman. Those who count from ovulation as the expected date of conception of the baby are now at 8 weeks. Exactly 8 weeks or two lunar months have passed since the meeting of the mother's egg and the father's sperm.

In the antenatal clinic, where the expectant mother has most likely already applied for registration or is planning to do so in the coming days, the deadline will be indicated according to the tradition generally accepted in medical obstetric practice - from the first day of the last menstruation.

Therefore, 8 weeks of embryonic actual life is 10 weeks by obstetric standards. In order not to get confused about the timing, it is better to focus on obstetric data, because both test results and ultrasound standards throughout pregnancy will be calculated exactly this way - from the first day of the last menstruation that preceded the onset of pregnancy. The tenth week is the middle of the third month of pregnancy.

If a woman is 10 weeks past her delay, then she should read materials about a different period, because she is already 14 weeks into obstetrics or 12 weeks from conception.

Baby development

The main event of this week is the change of status. The baby is no longer an embryo. Now he is a fetus, which is what doctors will call him from now on, since the fetal period of pregnancy has begun. The baby is now producing its own blood cells. It is already possible to determine his blood type and Rh status.

Your son or daughter weighs about 5 grams and is growing very quickly. So, at the beginning of the 10th week, his (or her) length from the crown to the tailbone is on average 23 mm, and already at the end of this week it approaches 38 mm.

With the change in status, the baby lost his embryonic tail. Now this is the tailbone. In all other respects, he looks more and more like a little man, his appearance changes every day. The overall size of the fruit at this stage allows us to compare it with a small plum.

Appearance

Something alien about the child's image still lingers. For example, he still has a large head. It is still the largest part of his body, but this week it becomes round and ceases to be oval.

Its diameter at this stage is more than one and a half centimeters. Now there is an active formation of the child’s individual facial features - the mouth is shaped by sponges, the eyes have almost moved to their proper place (previously they were on the sides of the head). The eyes remain closed for centuries; the baby will not learn to open them soon.

The neck, the formation of which began just a week ago, is already there, and the baby has the opportunity to turn his head to the right and left. At week 10, the sections of the nose and the outer ear - the auricle itself - develop. The facial muscles are still weak, but the child actively “trains” them by opening and closing his mouth. At this time, the first hair begins to grow on the head.

The arms and legs can already be seen on an ultrasound if the examination is done with a device with good, high resolution. They have tiny fingers, the nails have almost “stood” in the place assigned to them by nature (they migrated from the palms and feet, where a week earlier they formed as tissue compaction).

From about this week, the skeletal system is actively developing. Now the need for calcium increases significantly, a woman should make sure that her diet contains enough foods containing this mineral.

The abdominal and chest cavity have enlarged, the internal organs no longer protrude beyond the baby's body, and the diaphragm is forming this week.

Nervous system

The brain and spinal cord are formed, the network of nerve plexuses and nodes is actively developing. In the brain at the 10th obstetric week of pregnancy, differentiation occurs - now the hemispheres are separated from the cerebellum, formed a week earlier, the medulla oblongata is also separated.

Every minute changes occur in the structure of the brain, its cerebral hemispheres develop. Every day the number of brain cells increases by about a quarter of a million.

The first neural connections begin to form. This is a continuous process. The nervous system is one of the few in the body, the formation of which occurs not only in the prenatal period, but also for a long time after the birth of the child.

From the 10th week, the nervous system is already completely divided into central and peripheral. The cerebellum has already been formed - it is responsible for the coordination of movements. However, coordination is still a long way off. This week your baby will learn to bring his hands to his face and very soon he will understand that he can suck his finger. In the meantime, the sucking reflex is in the formative stage.

Internal organs

The formation of all organs by week 10 is almost complete. Now each of them is “mastering” the range of its own functionality. The child’s heart has an atrial septum, it works confidently and rhythmically. The heart rate characteristic of this period is 170 beats per minute. Allowable fluctuations are from 160 to 179 beats.

This week the child’s thyroid gland is working, the kidneys and bladder are honing their “skills”, urine is already accumulating in the kidneys and is discharged out into the amniotic fluid. The composition of the water remains sterile, because it is renewed every 3-4 hours.

This week the esophagus separates from the trachea; now it will connect the oral cavity and stomach, and the baby’s digestive organs will begin to “rehearse” their work.

What can the baby do?

At week 10, the baby learns to bend and straighten his limbs. There is a lot of space in the uterus, he feels free in it. If the legs touch the wall of the amniotic sac, the baby is able to push off from it and swim in a different direction. From day to day, the baby will learn to distinguish taste, since it is now that taste buds are forming on his tongue.

By the end of this week, the thin and almost transparent skin of the fetus will acquire sensitivity due to the formation of nerve endings on it. From this moment on, the baby will begin to “accumulate” the experience of tactile sensations.

What can be seen on an ultrasound?

Ultrasound scanning is not considered mandatory this week, but may well be carried out for medical reasons or at the pregnant woman’s own request. The number of fetuses in the uterus is determined if the pregnancy is multiple.

In babies, vital activity is recorded - heartbeat and movements. An ultrasound may be needed if the doctor needs to clarify the timing of gestation, because the first prenatal screening is coming soon, which should be carried out in strictly designated time periods (from 10-11 to 12-13 weeks inclusive).

Ultrasound is also recommended at 10 weeks for women who experience certain complications - threat of miscarriage, suspicion of intrauterine growth retardation, etc. Particularly curious expectant mothers themselves go to the diagnostician just to see what the baby has become and how he has grown.

This week, the gestational age and the baby’s compliance with it are judged by such parameters as the average internal diameter of the ovum (AVD) and the coccygeal-parietal size (CTR). Women going for an ultrasound this week will be interested in what indicators are considered normal for this period.

Average internal diameter of the ovum at 10 weeks

Coccygeal-parietal size at 10 weeks of pregnancy

The yolk sac, which has practically handed over all its responsibilities for feeding the baby and synthesizing hormones to the young placenta, begins to decrease. At week 10, its size is approximately 5 mm.

The thickness of the young placenta at this stage can also be measured for the first time. Its normal size for this period is about 13 mm, but other values in the range from 9 to 17 mm will be considered quite normal.

Gender of the child

The gender of the baby has been determined. It is already developing either according to the female or male type. This week, the formation of the external genitalia continues from the genital tubercle, which looks the same in both boys and girls. That's why There is no point in asking during an ultrasound about the sex of the baby. Even a very experienced diagnostician will not be able to answer this question until he sees external sexual characteristics, and this will only happen closer to the 16th week of pregnancy.

Theoretically, it is possible to consider gender at 12-13 weeks, but not a single doctor will guarantee the accuracy of such a “prediction”: the genitals are too small, and it is very easy to confuse a boy with a girl and vice versa.

The method of determining sex by heart rate is not scientifically based. Gender does not affect the functioning of the cardiovascular system in any way.

Feelings of the expectant mother

The pregnant woman’s feelings may begin to stabilize this week. If you used to suffer from toxicosis, now its manifestations and symptoms begin to gradually recede, it becomes easier. By this time, the size of the uterus had increased by more than 2 times its original value. Now the main female reproductive organ is becoming a bit crowded in the abdominal cavity, and a woman may begin to feel something new this week. This is a feeling of fullness in the pelvic area.

The uterus is still in the small pelvis, it is already becoming crowded, it begins to rise above the pubic joint. The woman begins to experience a more frequent urge to urinate. Otherwise, the woman’s sensations are still quite light and unburdensome.

The uterus weighs about 150 grams if the pregnancy is the first; during the second pregnancy and each subsequent pregnancy, the uterus at this stage is somewhat heavier - about 230 grams.

Due to the increase in the amount of blood circulating in the body, there may be attacks of dizziness. If they are not accompanied by loss of consciousness and do not occur too often, there is no reason to worry. Under the influence of progesterone, a hormone that is produced in large quantities, sleep can be disrupted, and a woman experiences problems falling asleep at night, as a result she feels weak during the day.

Nature has arranged it in such a way that at the very beginning of pregnancy, when the fetus is most vulnerable, a woman’s sleep becomes more anxious and sensitive, she “guards” the child around the clock.

Many expectant mothers complain of nightmares during this week of pregnancy. All the processes that are currently occurring in the body require considerable energy expenditure, so a feeling of fatigue and increased fatigue still accompany pregnancy at 10 weeks, but soon the body will be able to “compensate” for the lack of energy, and already in the second trimester, which is just around the corner , the health of the expectant mother will become noticeably better.

Some women this week are complaining that their lower abdomen feels tight from time to time. There is a completely physiological and natural reason for this - the ligaments that hold the growing uterus begin to stretch, and this is what causes not very pleasant sensations.

The weight gain this week ranges from one and a half to two and a half kilograms, but the woman wants to eat almost constantly - this is how the hormone progesterone manifests itself, one of the tasks of which is to create reserves in the mother’s body for food and energy metabolism of both the woman herself and her baby. If you blindly follow the “instructions” of progesterone, the increase may be greater, but it will be considered pathological.

The expectant mother’s mood begins to “even out.” If earlier it was unstable, with frequent changes and contrasting reactions, now the woman begins to gain a certain calmness, although the present calm time is still far away.

At 10 weeks there is still a possibility of miscarriage, the risks are not as great as a few weeks ago, but they exist, and this thought does not give many expectant mothers the opportunity to relax and enjoy their situation to the fullest.

Many pregnant women at this stage suffer from a runny nose, the causes of which cannot be determined. The woman is not sick, does not have a cold, she does not have the flu or ENT diseases, but nasal breathing is still difficult. This happens at the end of the first trimester quite often.

The true cause of “rhinitis of pregnancy,” as experts call it, lies in hormonal changes. Progesterone stores “for future use” not only adipose tissue, but also water. Excess moisture may accumulate in the fabrics. This is what sometimes leads to early gestosis, and quite often to swelling of the nasal passages and a runny nose.

Changes in the body

At the physical level, the rounding of shapes becomes noticeable. Visually, the woman, of course, does not yet look pregnant, but the tummy is somewhat rounded due to the fact that the uterus begins to rise above the womb.

In addition to the pretty roundness, the growing uterus often causes less pleasant sensations this week - it compresses the main blood vessels. This leads to the appearance of hemorrhoids, which can cause a lot of pain and discomfort.

It is under no circumstances recommended to treat it yourself, because there are very few drugs that can now be used without the risk of harming the baby - the doctor must choose a specific remedy. A woman should eat in such a way as to prevent constipation.

The waist line begins to gradually smooth out. But the breasts, to the envy of everyone, acquire amazing shapes and sizes. It increases by about 1-2 sizes, looks “full”, elastic. This week, small bumps called Montgomery nodes may appear in the nipple area.

On the stomach of many, by the 10th week, a vertical stripe appears darker than the rest of the skin, which appears due to increased synthesis of melatonin in the body. After childbirth, the strip will disappear, and the breasts will return to their previous size.

Now the breasts can bother the expectant mother quite a lot. She is actively preparing for the upcoming breastfeeding, glandular tissue is growing.

Pain, burning, aching and itching in the mammary glands almost lead many to a nervous breakdown. There is practically no way to alleviate this condition; you need to be patient and wait a little longer - by the second trimester, your breasts will practically stop hurting, since all the largest changes in the mammary glands occur precisely in the first third of the baby’s gestation period.

In the meantime, you should take care of purchasing a comfortable and large bra; you can immediately choose a model for pregnant and nursing mothers - with special pockets on the inside of the cups for breast pads. You may have to update your wardrobe - your hips have become wider, your waist has become larger, Clothes now should be comfortable and practical, not tightening the stomach and not restricting movement.

At the hormonal level, all processes in the body of a pregnant woman at 10 weeks are still controlled by progesterone, estrogens and hCG - human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG begins to be synthesized by chorion cells immediately after the blastocyst attaches to the uterine cavity (7-9 days after conception).

Now the concentration of hCG is approaching its maximum. It will grow until the 12th week, and then gradually begin to decline. Now its concentration is in the range of 20900-291000 mU/ml. The progesterone norm for this period is 23-27.6 ng/ml.

This hormone is necessary to ensure that the child has the best conditions for growth and development. Lack of progesterone increases the risk of spontaneous abortion.

In a woman’s body, progesterone is now “responsible” for mood swings, accumulation of fat and water, and appetite. This hormone controls the viability of the uterine muscles and placenta, prevents the cervix from opening prematurely and the uterine muscles from contracting, maintaining them in a relaxed state.

However, it is precisely thanks to such hormonal effects that many expectant mothers look great at 10 weeks - their skin becomes smoother, softer, cleaner, free from acne, an amazing, mysterious shine, unique only to pregnant women, appears in the eyes, the woman becomes prettier.

Pain – physiological and pathological

Minor abdominal pain at this stage may be quite normal. They are not sharp and strong, they have a pulling nature, and are not permanent. Such pain is associated with the functional characteristics of pregnancy at this stage - the uterus is constantly growing, this growth does not stop for a minute, muscles and ligaments are stretched.

You need to sound the alarm when pain in the abdomen is accompanied by strange, atypical discharge, is cutting in nature, is localized in the lower abdomen, radiates to the lower back and rectal area. Such pain cannot be tolerated.

You should take a horizontal position, limit physical activity and call an ambulance, since such pain may be signs of a threatened miscarriage or an incipient miscarriage.

At week 10, the lower back and back hurt from time to time and, in fact, there is nothing wrong with that. The load on all muscles under the influence of progesterone, which relaxes them, increases, the pelvic bones begin to prepare in advance for the upcoming birth, so unpleasant sensations may be observed in the tailbone area.

The tailbone, back and lower back do not hurt all the time, but only when a woman is in an upright position for a long time, sitting in one position. To relieve discomfort, you should stretch, walk, lie down a little, and change your body position..

Most often, the back and lower back begin to hurt in the late afternoon, after a busy day. Many women note that they have a headache at 10 weeks. This pain should alert and force the pregnant woman to be more attentive to her health and all changes. With the appearance of the placenta, the amount of blood became greater, and the pressure on the walls of the blood vessels increased. If previously a woman had a tendency to increase blood pressure, now strict control over its level is needed - pressure should be measured every day on both hands.

If headaches appear against the background of completely normal blood pressure, then they are associated with hormonal changes. You need to be patient a little, the hormonal levels will begin to change very soon, and the headaches will subside.

Progesterone in large quantities, unfortunately, does not contribute to normal digestion. Constipation, diarrhea, increased gas formation, indigestion - all these symptoms are well known to pregnant women. Pain can also be caused by eating disorders. They should not be confused with pregnancy complications.

Abdominal pain due to problems with the digestive organs is of a different nature - they are most often concentrated in the upper abdomen, a woman may have a feeling that her “stomach is twisting”, the pain syndrome can be cutting in the right or left side and be accompanied by a feeling of distension of the intestines .

The causes of pathological pain for which a woman needs medical help may be:

  • Risk of miscarriage- pulling pains, intensifying, concentrated in the lower abdomen, radiating to the lower back, back, rectum. Accompanied by discharge.
  • Ectopic pregnancy- the pain is sharp, severe, unbearable, accompanied by nausea, loss of consciousness, and bleeding from the genitals.
  • Exacerbation of chronic diseases- in a woman, pyelonephritis, urolithiasis, osteochondrosis, gastritis, colitis, if she previously had them, may worsen due to the load on the entire body.

It is clear that it can be difficult for a woman to figure out for herself whether her pain is normal or pathological at such an early stage.

Therefore, if you experience pain localized in any part of the body, especially in the back and abdomen, you should contact your doctor and consult with him about the causes of pain and ways to reduce it.

Discharge

Normally, discharge at the 10th obstetric week of pregnancy increases slightly in quantity. This is due to the fact that the uterus begins to extend beyond the pelvis. However, the qualitative characteristics of vaginal discharge should be the same as before - light, white or milky, as well as yellowish, odorless and impurity-free. Discharge of any other color or shade is considered abnormal and is a reason to consult a doctor.

Green, bubbling discharge with an unpleasant fishy odor may indicate a bacterial infection. Staphylococci, gonococci and Escherichia coli give different shades of green to vaginal secretions.

White, thick and viscous discharge, having a cheesy structure and consistency, indicates that a woman has thrush or colpitis. With a bacterial infection and thrush, a woman often experiences itching, burning, and discomfort in the perineum.

Blood in the discharge can appear in different ways. It all depends on the pathology and the amount of blood. So, the discharge can be pink, orange, mucous streaked with blood, sanguineous, thin, or pure blood.

Brown “daub” is also one of the options for the presence of blood in the genital tract. Such discharge may be a sign of an impending miscarriage, placental abruption, or pathologies of the cervix. Therefore, any hint of the presence of blood in the discharge, even if it is not clearly visible, should be regarded by a woman as a reason to immediately consult a doctor.

Some women (this happens quite rarely) experience completely normal bleeding. For example, on the day when your next period came outside of pregnancy, you may notice a drop of blood on a panty liner at 10 weeks.

You definitely need to talk to a doctor about this, but if this woman has such a feature, then she should be prepared for the fact that for the entire 9 months while she is carrying a child, the body “for old times’ sake” will bleed on the day of menstruation, which according to essentially nothing will happen. This phenomenon does not pose any harm to the baby and mother. Science has not yet been able to convincingly explain it.

Yellow discharge, accompanied by itching and discomfort during this period, may indicate the presence of a sexually transmitted infection. Gray and brown discharge most often indicates an inflammatory process in the organs of the woman’s reproductive system. There is no need to be embarrassed to see a doctor.

Discharge is an important diagnostic sign. Any genital tract infection or inflammatory process can become factors in the death of the baby or its intrauterine infection.

Modern medicine has a sufficient arsenal of means and methods to treat them even during pregnancy.

Possible problems and dangers

The period of increased danger has not yet ended; it is too early to say that the threats to the baby and his mother have passed. The baby now needs maternal protection, organogenesis (the formation of all organs) is completed, but the immune system is not yet working, and therefore any negative factor can affect the baby.

Let's talk about the most common dangers that can await a pregnant woman at 10 weeks according to obstetric standards.

Retrochorial hematoma

Such pathology at 10 weeks is not detected as often as at earlier stages, but it is not excluded. She represents accumulation of blood between the chorion and fetal membranes. This becomes possible if a detachment occurs. Retrochorial hematoma is most often found in pregnant women who have untreated infectious diseases, who have had the flu, colds, or acute respiratory viral infections at an earlier stage.

Often, such a diagnosis based on ultrasound results can be made for women who have chronic inflammatory diseases of the internal genital organs.

Detachment with the formation of a hematoma can occur when lifting heavy objects, exposure to strong vibration, hormonal imbalance, or severe and prolonged stress. If a pregnant woman cannot give up bad habits (smoking, drinking alcohol), then the likelihood of developing such a hematoma increases tenfold.

Very often, retrochorial hematoma develops in women who suffered from severe early toxicosis with vomiting and loose stools.

The pathology may have no symptoms, but then it will become obvious on an ultrasound. Sometimes a hematoma appears as pink or brownish discharge from the genitals. The main danger is further detachment and fetal death if the hematoma increases.

Treatment is carried out in a gynecological hospital if the hematoma is quite large in size, or at home if it is small. The woman is prescribed hemostatic drugs, drugs that prevent an increase in the tone of the uterus, vitamins and complete rest until the hematoma resolves.

Prognosis depends on the size of the cavity filled with blood. In most cases, pregnancy can be maintained.

Toxicosis

Severe toxicosis, which is manifested by the physical inability to eat fully, vomiting and indigestion, at week 10 is not such a common occurrence. Now toxicosis already poses quite a serious danger - every day the child needs more and more nutrients, vitamins, and minerals for further growth. Therefore, severe toxicosis that has not resolved or decreased by week 10 is best treated in a hospital.

A woman who cannot eat properly due to nausea and vomiting will be given intravenous vitamin solutions, drugs that will improve uteroplacental blood flow.

In all other cases, the woman is recommended to eat little by little, but often, so that the baby does not “starve.” Soon the symptoms of toxicosis should subside, for most this is already happening, for others relief occurs before 12-14 weeks of pregnancy.

Frozen pregnancy

A frozen pregnancy is a pregnancy in which the fetus for some reason stops growing, developing and dies. Irreversible things can happen at any stage of gestation, but there are periods during which fetal death is considered most likely. The tenth obstetric week refers to such periods.

The risk of sudden death of a baby is highest at 3-4 weeks, from 8 to 10 weeks, and from 16 to 18 weeks of pregnancy.

The reasons why a baby stops developing are not completely clear to medicine. . The most likely is the genetic version. During conception, chromosomal pathologies and triplodia could arise, due to which the child, during development, even at the embryonic stage, developed pathologies incompatible with life. He cannot grow further; the genetic error turns out to be total and insurmountable.

Other reasons include infectious diseases of the mother, pathological forms of sperm (teratozoospermia) in the father, various unfavorable factors - ecology, poisons, toxins, radiation, some medications, bad habits of the expectant mother, a large number of abortions in her gynecological history.

At week 10, this pathology may not manifest itself in any way until a gynecological examination. A woman’s uterus is behind its due date in size, which is the basis for prescribing an unscheduled ultrasound. The diagnostician notes the absence of vital activity of the fetus - it has no motor activity and the heart does not beat.

2-4 weeks after its death, the fetus may begin to be rejected, then the first symptoms will be bloody brown spotting and nagging pain in the lower abdomen.

At an earlier stage, a woman can theoretically guess that something went wrong. Many claim that they felt that on one “wonderful” day all pre-existing symptoms and signs of pregnancy completely disappeared, their breasts stopped hurting, and their basal temperature dropped.

The uterine cavity must be scraped out. Fetal tissue samples are taken for genetic analysis to try to establish what exactly led to the tragedy.

This information is needed in order to begin planning the next pregnancy after anti-inflammatory treatment, but adjusted for possible risks.

Risk of miscarriage

According to statistics, the threat of miscarriage occurs in the early stages in approximately 7 out of 10 pregnant women. But these data should not greatly upset the expectant mother, because in 90% of all cases, doctors quite successfully manage to cope with it and save the baby. Exceptions are cases of threat arising from genetic pathologies. If the baby is not viable by definition, medicine is powerless.

The shorter the pregnancy, the higher the risk of miscarriage. Usually, at the 10th obstetric week, the risks are no longer as great as before.

Women who have previously had miscarriages in the same week, as well as women who became pregnant through in vitro fertilization, are most susceptible to miscarriages at this time.

Older mothers who are over 35 years old are also at risk. After all, with increasing age, the likelihood of miscarriage in the first trimester is higher.

The threatening condition is manifested by the appearance of pain in the lower abdomen, discharge from the genital organs that is atypical for this week, as well as a deterioration in general well-being.

Analyzes and examinations

The list of tests and examinations at week 10 depends on when the woman registered for pregnancy at the antenatal clinic. If she did this before the 10th week, then now you can relax and tune in to the first prenatal screening, which can be scheduled for the next week or two weeks later.

If the expectant mother has not yet registered, this week is the time to do so in order to have time to prepare for the screening study. When registering, a woman undergoes a full and detailed examination. When she first contacts the gynecologist, she will be given directions, and throughout the week she will undergo tests and diagnostic examinations.

Mandatory tests when registering include:

  • general blood and urine tests;
  • blood chemistry;
  • bacterial culture of urine;
  • blood tests for HIV status and syphilis;
  • blood test for hepatitis B and C;
  • blood tests to determine antibodies to chickenpox, cytomegalovirus, rubella, herpes - the so-called TORCH infections;
  • blood tests to determine infections, including hidden ones (chlamydia, mycoplasma, etc.);
  • a blood test to determine the blood group and Rh status; if a woman has Rh negative blood, then an additional analysis of venous blood is done to determine the presence of nonspecific antibodies, which may indicate the onset of Rh conflict between mother and fetus;
  • smear of vaginal contents and scraping from the cervix;
  • coagulogram - determination of blood clotting factors;
  • colposcopy.

In the same week, a woman can be scheduled to undergo the first prenatal screening, during which a blood test for hCG and plasma protein PAPP-A is taken, as well as an ultrasound of the fetus. The objective of this study is to identify women at risk for genetic pathologies of the fetus.

You should not refuse to undergo this examination.

Following the doctor’s recommendations and following simple rules will help you avoid many complications in the 10th week.

Mode

A woman needs a full night’s sleep, so all night shifts, if the work involves them, should be abandoned; legally, a pregnant woman has every right to do this. It is important for a woman to find time during the day to lie down and relax a little. If sleep is disturbed, you should consult your doctor and together choose a mild, natural-based sedative.

Physical inactivity is the scourge of Russian pregnant women. Therefore, your daily routine should include time for a short walk in the fresh air. Evening walks will help normalize the process of falling asleep and improve the quality of sleep.

Nutrition

At week 10, it is important to eat rationally and nutritiously, eat at least 5-6 times a day, but in small portions, without overeating. A woman should give up smoked foods, pickled foods, fried, fatty, and spicy foods. It is advisable to reduce the amount of salt to 5 grams per day to avoid swelling.

The diet should contain enough fresh vegetables and fruits- this is good for the baby and is an excellent prevention of constipation and hemorrhoids.

It is undesirable to drink carbonated drinks and eat a lot of sweets - this will help eliminate the likelihood of gestational diabetes.

Do not forget that from the 10th week the need for calcium increases sharply. You must include a sufficient amount of dairy products, cottage cheese, fresh herbs, and nuts in your diet.

Sex

At week 10, there are no obvious contraindications to a rich intimate life. Sexual activity should be limited only if a threat of miscarriage is identified and for the duration of treatment of identified genital tract infections.

If the pregnant woman is healthy, the doctor has no concerns about the condition of the baby and mother, then sex will only be beneficial- it helps a woman improve her mood, improves blood circulation in the pelvic organs.

At this stage, the belly is not yet a hindrance, there is no need to use protection, a woman’s sexual desire is at a fairly high level, and therefore intimate pleasures this week can bring both partners a lot of pleasure.

Sport

Excessive physical activity during this period is not recommended, as it can lead to miscarriage. but swimming will be beneficial.

If a woman has not done it before, it’s time to enroll in a special water aerobics group for pregnant women and do yoga. This will help avoid gaining excess weight, and also prepare the muscles of the female body for the upcoming birth.

Vitamins

Vitamin complexes created specifically for pregnant women will help compensate for the lack of certain useful substances during this period. True, experts warn pregnant women against self-prescribing vitamins.

All complexes are different in their composition, and an excess of one or another vitamin is no less harmful than its deficiency.

A doctor will help you choose a drug based on the results of a biochemical blood test, which shows what vitamins and minerals and how many are contained in the blood of the expectant mother.

You are in your 10th obstetric week of pregnancy - this means that 2.5 months have passed since life began under your heart. Were the first days and weeks of pregnancy difficult? And, perhaps, the most difficult stages are still ahead of you - perhaps, most importantly, prepare for what awaits you. What do you need to know when you are 10 weeks pregnant?

A child at 10 weeks of pregnancy can already weigh about 4 g, and this is with a height of 31 to 42 mm! Yes, now, at 10 weeks pregnant, your baby is no bigger than a plum.

Experts assure that if a child suddenly approaches the wall, he is able to push away from the uterus, however, this push will be so weak that it is simply unrealistic for the mother to feel it.

All organs, including body parts and vital systems, are fully formed in the tiny man. Now, until the end of pregnancy - approximately 40 weeks, the baby will “mature” in order to be able to live in our world.

Gynecologists are confident that 10 weeks of pregnancy is a turning point: the critical stages have been passed, now follows a calmer period when the fetus will develop and “mature.”

10 weeks of pregnancy: fetal development

Now the baby is very comfortable - he is surrounded by amniotic fluid, amniotic fluid and amniotic fluid. This liquid is necessary for the baby: he swallows it, which allows him to saturate the body with moisture from the inside. At this stage, there is little amniotic fluid - about 20 ml.

All the most important organs for life are fully formed: from the kidneys, liver and intestines to the brain. At this stage, the organs are already working - at least they are trying to start working, as it should be in a person. Of course, they still need long weeks of development for the baby to have the opportunity to live outside the mother’s body.

At this stage, you can even see the baby’s fingernails, and both the hands and feet have tiny ears (the pinnae stand out noticeably), and you can even see the upper lip. At this stage, the outlines of the spine are clearly visible, as well as the nerve endings that are formed and extend from the spine. There is also a forehead, however, now it stands out noticeably compared to the body - high and protruding, but this is normal, since the brain is growing and the disproportion is quite acceptable.

In addition to the fact that by this time all organs (almost) and systems characteristic of fully formed adults must be formed, the fetus begins to take on human shape. Firstly, the tail disappears - it disappears between the future buttocks, and now they are just forming. Secondly, the gills disappear - these cracks become overgrown, and instead of them lungs begin to develop - for now these are peculiar vessels. Thirdly, the formation of ventricles near the heart occurs.

Starting from the 10th week of pregnancy - approximately 50 days after fertilization - brain impulses are already recorded in the fetus, which indicates in medical practice that this is already a living person. In addition, this evidence confirms the fact that the nervous system is formed by this time. By the 10th week of pregnancy, absolutely all parts of the brain begin to differentiate, its cortex (and all layers) is being formed, and the outlines of the cerebral hemispheres are emerging.

10th week of pregnancy: tests

  1. Not everyone is prescribed a chorionic villus biopsy or amniotic sac puncture - these are expensive tests and not all clinics do them. Most often, these tests make it possible to detect any genetic abnormalities of the fetus at the earliest stages. For example, they will help recognize Down syndrome. Pregnant women are advised to carry out these tests between 9 and 11 weeks. There are two ways by which you can obtain fetal villi (they, by the way, are located on the placenta). You can insert a special instrument directly through the cervix or by making a micro-incision directly in the peritoneum. There is no need to worry about a miscarriage - the risk of this procedure is minimal. Doctors say it is equal to one, maximum two percent. In the same way as puncture of the amniotic sac (amniocentesis). The most important thing is to entrust yourself, your baby and your body to a qualified specialist. Test results will be ready, on average, in five to seven days. If the doctor's answers do not suit the expectant mother, she will have time to think and possibly agree to an abortion.
  2. Fetoscopy. This analysis involves examining the fetus and placenta, which are located directly inside the uterus. Thanks to this analysis, the doctor can carefully examine the baby and, if possible, correct the abnormalities. Fetoscopy is much more effective and gives a better overall picture than an ultrasound at 10 weeks of pregnancy. The procedure is as follows: a device, a fetoscope, is inserted through the peritoneum to the uterus (outwardly it resembles a laparoscope, only larger in size). Remember that this procedure can only be performed by a highly qualified specialist who has extensive practice. This method has a slightly higher risk of miscarriage - from 3 to 4%, so before agreeing to such a procedure, consult with your doctors and make a final, informed decision.

10th week of pregnancy: what happens to mom

The 10th week of pregnancy is characterized by new sensations for the mother. For example, at this stage the expectant mother can hear her baby’s heart. Of course, for this you will need a special ultrasound device - Doppler. Hearing the heartbeat of your own baby is exactly what helps you finally realize that soon you will have the most important person in your life.

For those women for whom pregnancy has become a very difficult period, starting from the 10th week, noticeable relief will begin. You can go to the hospital at any time, where, using special equipment, they will tell you whether everything is okay with the child.

Before pregnancy, the uterus resembled the shape of a pear, but now it is more like the size of a grapefruit. At the 10th week of pregnancy, the belly becomes slightly rounded, so around this time the waist begins to blur - clothes may become a little tight. In addition, your breasts are getting bigger, so you need to think about reconsidering your wardrobe: putting small things away, it might not hurt to go shopping a little.

At 10 weeks, if there are no medical contraindications, you can engage in fitness or light sports. Ideally, leisurely walking or swimming is recommended for you. Moreover, such activity is shown throughout all nine months of pregnancy. You should not lead an idle lifestyle while carrying a child - this is fraught with rapid weight gain and, as a result, you will not only gain much more than you should, but it will also be difficult to lose those extra pounds after childbirth, because they will not go away!

  1. If you feel that your stomach hurts or is tight, go to the doctor - most likely you have uterine tone. Sometimes nagging pain in the lower abdomen indicates that you are working too much - the body gets tired because it receives too much stress.
  2. Discharge at the 10th week of pregnancy is normal if it is not too abundant, odorless, homogeneous and light in color. If the discharge is anything unusual: it contains an admixture of pus, mucus, some kind of flakes, bubbles, or visually looks like cottage cheese, and also has an unpleasant odor, you need to consult your doctor, as this may be some kind of disease, for example , thrush or genitourinary tract infection. Often the body is infected by pathogenic bacteria, such as chlamydia, gonococci, trichomonas, etc. This is very dangerous - they can harm the baby, as they are causative agents of intrauterine infection, which, in turn, can lead to impaired fetal development and even death.
  3. If bloody discharge begins (and heavy discharge), hospitalization is required. Call an ambulance immediately, as there is a possibility that this is a miscarriage. The most important thing is not to panic and follow the doctor’s recommendations; today medicine has made great progress, so there is always hope of saving the child, even if you have heavy bleeding.
  4. If your discharge is bloody, but weak, as if spotting, then this is most likely a consequence of an examination by a gynecologist or sexual intercourse. Do not forget that if you have cervical erosion, the wound may bleed easily.
  5. If you experience heartburn, an unpleasant sensation during or immediately after eating, this indicates that your hormones have gone a little wild. Progesterone can cause a weakening of various functions, including the digestive tract. Due to the fact that the stomach muscles are weakened, gastric juice along with food remain in the stomach much longer than it was before the “interesting situation”, a “gastroesophageal reflex” occurs, which, in addition to heartburn, gives a sensation such as “indigestion”. Heartburn will intensify especially when the uterus begins to increase in size and put more pressure on the stomach. It will help with heartburn: frequent meals in small portions, a sitting position after eating (at least 30 minutes), a horizontal position on the right side (the uterus does not put pressure on the stomach), limiting fluids during meals.
  6. If at 10 weeks of pregnancy you begin to experience problems with bowel movements, it means that hormones are again to blame, because they slow down many processes in the body, including the movement of food. To alleviate your condition, you need to drink as much fluid as possible. From time to time you can treat yourself to dried apricots, beet salad, and plums.
  7. Many women at the 10th week of pregnancy begin to go to the toilet very often “small times”. The fact is that the uterus, as it grows, will put pressure on the urinary tract, which will lead to the fact that you will want to have a bowel movement all the time. Yes, sometimes women describe their condition this way. Frequent urge to urinate is common during the first trimester, until the uterus rises and stands outside the pelvis. To ease your condition, learn to completely empty your bladder: while sitting on the toilet, lean forward slightly and push three times. If you go to the toilet very often, but the volume of fluid coming out is different each time (sometimes more, sometimes less), and you experience discomfort, you need to see a doctor, what if you develop cystitis? It’s better to play it safe and get tested to avoid trouble.
  8. Many pregnant women experience excessive salivation at the 10th week of pregnancy - this may be due to nausea or, conversely, nausea occurs due to excessive saliva. This is a normal condition; if you cannot cope with this illness on your own, you can suck on a mint candy or chew a mint leaf.
  9. During pregnancy, women should drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Both the expectant mother and her baby need water for a normal cycle - both gestation and development. A woman's kidneys work for two people, so they need more fluid to gracefully withstand the additional load. But your baby needs liquid in order to have something to fill the amniotic sac. Drink as soon as you start to feel thirsty, and also every time you start to experience slight discomfort inside (heaviness, pain in the side, etc.). Do not limit your fluid intake, motivating yourself by “running less to the toilet”, this is very harmful! During the 10th week of pregnancy, you need to drink at least two liters of water per day. It doesn't have to be water: juices (especially vegetable) and broths are also suitable. Avoid drinking coffee and carbonated drinks! Include vegetables and fruits that contain sufficient amounts of liquid in your diet (watermelon, melon, lettuce, etc.).
  10. No matter what - pamper yourself, my beloved! Go shopping, buy new underwear or a blouse, and perhaps a book by your favorite author or some souvenir that will cheer you up. Prepare a romantic dinner for yourself and your husband - just one to be together. Go to a beauty salon - get your face cleaned or dye your hair. By the way, today experts have proven that all these procedures are not at all dangerous for the baby, so you can safely go to a beauty salon!

10th week of pregnancy. Video

The 10th week of pregnancy from the moment of conception corresponds to 12-13 obstetric weeks. This is the time when the first trimester is summed up. Based on the results of ultrasound and biochemical screening, one can judge how the baby is growing and whether he has any gross developmental disorders. Toxicosis passes and you can enjoy your “position”.

The risk of miscarriage is significantly reduced. By this time, the pregnant woman is registered, the possible “pitfalls” of this particular pregnancy are known, and complications are being prevented. The size of the embryo can be compared to an average lemon (more details in the table).

Table - Interesting facts

By the end of the first trimester, the embryo reaches 5-7 cm, and the uterus along with it has dimensions comparable to an average balloon (even larger with twins).

What's happening to the baby

The tenth week of pregnancy from the moment of conception is the “gold standard” for conducting all kinds of screenings for developmental defects. At this point, all the external and internal structures of the baby are not only formed, but also accessible for viewing using ultrasound. However, development continues at a rapid pace. What happens to the baby at 10 weeks of pregnancy is reflected in more detail in the table.

Table - Fetal development at 10 weeks of pregnancy (from conception)

Organ system or body partWhat's happening
General form- The head is bent and the chin touches the chest;
- the facial part is well developed and resembles the appearance of an adult;
- eyelids, nose, ears are well visualized
Skin and limbs- Limbs are well developed along with fingers and toes;
- nails begin to grow;
- hair buds appear on the surface of the body
Urinary organsContinue to develop
Respiratory system- There are vocal cords, the baby can even make sounds;
- bronchi, trachea, lung tissue are formed
GenitalsDeveloped according to gender, female or male
Heart and blood vesselsFully formed at this point
Immune system and hematopoiesis- The “construction” of the thyroid gland is completed;
- differentiation of immune system cells continues
Digestive organs- There are already about 20 bookmarks of future teeth;
- the intestine “leaves” the umbilical cord, its internal structure becomes more complicated;
- intestinal peristalsis (contractions) appears;
- the liver actively produces bile;
- the pancreas synthesizes enzymes and insulin
Brain and rest of the nervous system- Gray and white matter is actively formed;
- the “growth” of nerve endings throughout the body continues

By this time, the amount of amniotic fluid reaches about 50-70 ml and its intensive increase in volume begins. The size of the fetus at the 10th week of pregnancy from the moment of conception can reach 6-7 cm, and its weight is about 40-50 g. The woman does not yet feel any movement, but the baby is very active. With an ultrasound, you can see how he “jumps”, “turns over” and even “waves his hand”.

What do women notice at 10 weeks of pregnancy?

If the 10th week of pregnancy is not accompanied by any sensations on the part of the woman, do not worry - this is the absolute norm. Symptoms of toxicosis in 70% of women disappear without a trace, the body is already accustomed to the new condition. The main signs of pregnancy at this time are as follows.

  • Tendency to constipation and bloating. Progesterone relaxes the intestinal walls, causing fermentation and putrefaction. Hence the increased formation of gases, bloating, and constipation. In 70% of cases, “experiments” with diet allow you to avoid this. Avoiding sweets and starchy foods and adding laxative foods (prunes, beets) to your diet helps you avoid taking medications. Therefore, the belly at the 10th week of pregnancy can create a “false” manifestation of a long term.
  • Weight gain. Even with severe toxicosis in the first trimester, by 12 obstetric weeks a “+” appears when weighed. If you gain excessively (more than 5 kg in three months), you should reconsider your diet.
  • Breast augmentation. The mammary glands remain enlarged, but the chest pain is no longer as severe or disappears altogether.

Some taste preferences may remain, for example, to sweet or salty. But these are rather the characteristics of a woman’s body. Some people note a tendency to get motion sickness on public transport. Drowsiness may accompany the entire pregnancy period.

Everything that happens to the mother during this period directly depends on the strength of her health. If the body's reserves are insufficient, this is manifested by exacerbation of chronic diseases or the appearance of signs of hidden ailments. For example, varicose veins or stomach problems. The latter is in the form of constant heartburn and indigestion.

Features of ultrasound

One of the important studies is ultrasound. However, you should not blindly believe it - this is a relative method, the reliability of which largely depends on the quality of the device and the qualifications of the doctor. The optimal time to screen for malformations is determined by the size of the embryo, not the age. The baby should be from 45 to 84 mm from the coccyx to the parietal bone (CTB). Parameters important for diagnostics are listed in the table.

Table - What is determined by ultrasound at 10 weeks of pregnancy (12 obstetric)

In addition to screening parameters, the doctor examines the internal organs in detail for abnormal development. The localization of the chorion and the presence/absence of detachment are also determined. The wall of the uterus (myometrium) is examined for the presence of myomatous nodes, and the ovaries are examined to identify cysts. The length and width of the cervix are measured separately.

The following defects are relatively often detected during an ultrasound scan at 12 weeks:

  • risk for Down syndrome- as well as for other chromosomal abnormalities, for example, Patau, Edwards;
  • megacystitis - enlargement of the bladder;
  • ventral hernia- as well as its extreme manifestation gastroschisis (in this case, all abdominal organs are located outside the body of the embryo);
  • limb pathology- absence of parts or a limb (upper or lower) entirely;
  • brain abnormality- absence of certain structures or the entire brain (rarely), as well as enlargement of the ventricles with cerebrospinal fluid;
  • spina bifida - non-fusion of the vertebral arches with the spinal cord coming out, underdevelopment of the nerve pathways.

"Double test"

For a more detailed examination, it is recommended to take biochemical markers of the course of pregnancy. At 10-12 weeks from conception, it is necessary to determine the level of hCG and PAPP protein (protein). Based on their level, one can judge the likelihood of developmental pathologies in the fetus. For testing, blood is drawn from a vein. The results are ready within a few days. The standards are presented in the table.

Table - “Double test” for defects in the first trimester

MarkerWhat does deviation mean?Normal values, honey/ml
hCG, its b-subunit- Increases with Down, Patau, Edwards syndrome, multiple pregnancy, diabetes in women, against the background of the use of gestagenic drugs;
- decreases with the threat of termination of pregnancy and arrest in development, as well as with insufficient growth of the placenta
From 30-40 thousand to 150-200 thousand.
Protein PAPP- Increases with abnormal location of the placenta and multiple births;
- decreases with chromosomal diseases (for example, Down syndrome), threat of miscarriage, diabetes and high blood pressure in a pregnant woman
0,03-100

The analysis can predict an abnormality in the fetus with a 95% probability. However, an isolated increase or decrease in the indicator does not indicate pathology. For example, only 30% of embryos with a cervical fold of about 4 mm are diagnosed with Down syndrome. To clarify, additional methods can be used - CVS (chorionic villus biopsy) or amniocentesis (sampling of amniotic fluid).

Options for further developments

Ultrasound at the 10th week of pregnancy, as well as the “double test”, are highly informative.
Based on the results of these studies, several scenarios are possible:

  • the woman is referred to geneticists;
  • termination of pregnancy is recommended;
  • no additional manipulations or consultations are required.

Genetic consultation

If an abnormal ultrasound picture or test results are detected, the woman additionally needs consultation with geneticists. Specialists carefully ascertain the medical history and calculate the risk of possible pathology. The question of the need for CVS or amniocentesis is being decided.

BVS is performed at 11-13 weeks. Using a special needle under ultrasound control, a puncture of the anterior abdominal wall, myometrium is performed and a biopsy of placental tissue is performed. Next, the resulting material is sent for genetic research, and the chromosomal set of the resulting baby cells is determined. With 100% probability, Down syndrome and some other defects can be excluded/confirmed.

BVS is an invasive procedure. However, it increases the risk of spontaneous miscarriage, placental abruption and amniotic fluid leakage by no more than 5-10% compared to general population indicators. Reviews of women who had to undergo this procedure confirm this. BVS is not performed in the following cases:

  • multiple uterine fibroids;
  • threat of miscarriage at the moment;
  • HIV infection in a woman;
  • inflammatory processes in the vagina at the moment.

On average, the BVH result is ready in a few days.

Amniocentesis is performed from 16 to 18 weeks (obstetric). The indications for it and the technique of implementation are similar to BVH. But 10-15 ml of amniotic fluid is taken, and then its cellular composition is studied and the chromosome set of the child in the resulting material is determined.

Termination of pregnancy

At 12 weeks, a woman may be offered termination of pregnancy for medical reasons, taking into account her wishes. Usually the reason for this is the identification of defects, including those incompatible with life after birth or leading to deep disability. For example, Patau syndrome, gastroschisis, spina bifida. The final decision is made by the woman and her family. The doctor’s task is to explain all possible consequences and risks.

Routine observation in residential complex

If ultrasound screening and the “double test” do not reveal any abnormalities, the woman continues with routine observation in consultation. At the same time, the likelihood of a threat of spontaneous abortion, abruption or non-development is less, but still remains in this period. If you notice the following symptoms, you should consult a doctor unscheduled:

  • pain - pulling or cramping, in the lower abdomen or lower back;
  • brown spotting - or blood from the vagina;
  • discharge - copious and thin like “water” at the 10th week of pregnancy is considered a sign of pathology;
  • sudden feeling of pressure- on the bladder with frequent urge to go to the toilet.

Prevention of complications

From this point on, you can stop taking folic acid if there are no additional indications for this. For example, anemia. In areas where iodine deficiency is endemic, the use of iodine-containing drugs is recommended. For example, “Iodomarina” at a dose of 200 mg. Other medications, including vitamin complexes, are used only as indicated.

The closer to the end of the first trimester, the better the pregnant woman feels. Therefore, expectant mothers often become more active, burdening themselves with work and household chores. However, you should be careful. At the 10th week of pregnancy, sex is allowed if the woman’s sensations during intimate relationships do not cause discomfort.

Do not forget that there is a difference in the concepts of the 10th obstetric week of pregnancy and from the moment of conception. In the latter case, it is necessary to take two weeks.

Reviews: “I saw the baby waving his arms”

How are you feeling at 12-13 weeks? By week 12, my nausea began to subside. But sometimes, when we are very full, then a little more lets us know. Sensitivity to odors remained. The smell of all perfumes is disgusting. The chest no longer hurts, but is elastic. I'm going for screening soon, I'm very worried. I already had an ultrasound done at 11 weeks and my heart was listened to, but I still feel trembling in my knees at the thought of screening. Fear and nothing more.

Zhenya, http://www.woman.ru/health/Pregnancy/thread/4378822/

For me, too, by the 12th week, toxicosis began to gradually go away, and before that I thought that I would go crazy, I also felt sick from perfume and coffee ((You will have to suffer for another month, it will be hard in the stomach all the time if you overeat a little, and it’s like belching permanent (sorry) The best time is 16-30 weeks)) I’m already 31, it’s hard to walk and sleep is uncomfortable, but it’s better than the first months with toxicosis.

Lilu, http://www.woman.ru/health/Pregnancy/thread/4378822/

Well, the 12th week has begun) there was no toxicosis, no, I was slightly nauseous for a couple of days and that’s it... my appetite hasn’t changed, I eat the same as before pregnancy, my weight is the same, I don’t have any special cravings) fatigue, drowsiness, headaches pain - these are my symptoms, in general everything is normal, the doctor said “Everything is beautiful, everything is great!”))) at 10 weeks I saw my baby, waved my arms))) I still have emotions, the 1st screening is coming, I’m waiting) )

Good day everyone... I’m 12 weeks... I don’t feel very well... but I’m getting better... less nausea, the migraine seems to have subsided. I really want vegetables and fruits, tearfulness and irritability. The belly is starting to grow, the breasts are very painful + size 1... everything will be fine... the most important thing is that the baby is healthy, in two days we will go for screening...

Guest, https://mamapedia.com.ua/forum/v-ozidanii-chuda/calendar-beremennosti/12-week-beremennosti.html

We are 11 weeks and 4 days old, we’ve already gotten scared... I’ve been on Duphaston and Progynova for 2 months. I feel terribly sick from the 6th week, as if on an alarm clock - after 14.00 until the night, well at least there is no vomiting, I am a terrible meat eater now I eat tomatoes, although I loved them before, cherries and melons, I have lost almost 4 kg, my husband is nervous... I can’t imagine how it is that I ate a Moscow stick in one sitting and am not at all interested in my previously favorite food... My stomach started hurting at 4 weeks and still hurts. only the places of pain alternate... from the stomach to the very bottom... Since the end of the 10th week, the lower back, tailbone hurt and it all shoots into the buttocks... The chest is heavy, it bakes and hurts... I want to sleep already at 8 pm... Some strange activity is observed: one The day is like a bee - general cleaning, rearrangements (my husband is already furious). and the next day I lie flat and don’t want anything...

The first 8-10 weeks of fetal development are considered the most dangerous in terms of high risks of miscarriage. External negative factors can adversely affect the health of the baby inside the womb. Gynecologists and other medical specialists advise a pregnant woman to avoid stress, colds and other negative conditions that will adversely affect the development of the baby inside the womb. It must be remembered that the baby’s internal organs and systems have just completed the process of formation, and under the negative influence of pathogenic microorganisms they can stop or greatly slow down their own development.

At the 10th week of gestation, the size of the fetus inside the womb is similar to a strawberry. Your baby's weight already reaches 5 grams, and the baby's height varies between 31-42 mm.

Feelings at 10 weeks of pregnancy

Advice:

In the tenth week of pregnancy, many women still experience symptoms of severe toxicosis. Moreover, this unpleasant phenomenon may even intensify, and a pregnant woman should be patient while waiting for her own condition to improve. It is advisable, of course, to follow all recommendations of medical specialists.

At the 10th week of obstetric pregnancy, severe heartburn is added to symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Its manifestations are determined by the fact that at this time there is a strong contraction of the muscles separating the esophagus from the stomach. Because of this, the acids in the stomach rise higher, entering the esophagus and severely irritating its mucous membrane. At this moment, a pregnant woman feels a strong burning sensation in her chest, sometimes turning into severe pain.

An additional symptom of pregnancy in the 10th week of pregnancy is more frequent urination. They are due to the fact that the enlarged uterus puts strong pressure on the bladder. Sometimes in such cases, even urinary incontinence may occur when laughing, suddenly coughing or sneezing. In general, this symptom is more typical for late pregnancy or for repeated pregnancies, but in some cases it can appear as early as the 10th week of pregnancy.

Ultrasound at 10 weeks of pregnancy

Ultrasound at the 10th week of obstetric pregnancy is already among the routine examinations. In general, doctors send a pregnant woman for the first scheduled screening in the period from the 11th to the 14th week, but sometimes the doctor recommends undergoing such an examination earlier, as part of special medical indications. At this time, it is possible to accurately determine whether the baby is developing correctly, whether he has gross developmental defects, or whether there are any pathologies in the uterine cervix, the uterus itself or the placenta.

At the tenth week of pregnancy, the embryo is a full-fledged little person, the size of a plum fruit. With an ultrasound examination, you can already accurately see the baby’s arms and legs. The child gestures well with his limbs, sucks a finger, and fingers can be distinguished and counted on his arms and legs. The baby already has ears and a mouth, which he already knows how to open and close. The baby already knows how to touch his face with his hand.

At the 10th week of intrauterine development, the production of gastric juice begins in the baby’s stomach, the rudiments of teeth appear, and the kidneys are already fully functioning. In the photographs obtained during ultrasound examination, you can see that the embryo still retains its transparency, but the first fluff is already forming on it, which will later become hairs. The genital organs have already been formed by this time, but it is still very difficult to see them on an ultrasound machine. Determining the sex of the baby in the 10th week of pregnancy is only possible with modern ultrasound equipment with a high degree of resolution, which is skillfully used by a qualified doctor with extensive experience working with pregnant women.

An ultrasound examination at 10 weeks allows you to determine:

  • The number of fetuses in the uterus when diagnosing a multiple pregnancy;
  • The state of the formed placenta and the amount of amniotic fluid;
  • Features of the placement of the umbilical cord and the number of vessels in it. Here it is important for the doctor to determine whether there is a risk of umbilical cord entanglement;
  • Fetal parameters such as weight, height, etc.;
  • Diagnosis of gross malformations of the fetus;
  • Preliminary determination of the baby’s position (in pelvic, transverse or cephalic presentation).

In general, ultrasound diagnostics at the 10th week of pregnancy is carried out only in rare cases when, for example, there are cases of hereditary diseases in the family of a pregnant woman. If the results of the study are suspicious, then doctors will still have time to repeat the scan in a couple of weeks. In addition, doctors will have the opportunity to correct the management of pregnancy and, if necessary, prescribe treatment for the expectant mother. If the situation is difficult, then the gynecologist decides to terminate the patient’s pregnancy.

Changes in the female body in the 10th week of pregnancy

At the 10th week, the uterus of a pregnant woman gradually enlarges, now located slightly above the pubic bone. At this time, your favorite clothes are already becoming tight in the hips. And if before your tummy was absolutely flat, then at the 10th week of pregnancy it becomes rounded at the bottom. However, for those around her, changes in a woman’s appearance will still be unnoticeable.

At this stage of fetal development, a pregnant woman may notice the appearance of skin pigmentation associated with hormonal surges. In addition, her hair growth is activated, light fluff appears on her stomach, and sometimes on her chest. However, there is no need to sound the alarm about this, because such symptoms are nothing more than a side effect of the hormonal changes in the female body, which is in a new state. Within a few months after birth, such defects will go away on their own.

Photo of the belly at 10 weeks of pregnancy

The visibility of the abdomen to others in the 10th week of pregnancy will depend on the individual characteristics of the woman’s build, as well as the initial weight of the expectant mother. In thin women, the tummy is a small protruding tubercle, which is not noticeable at all under clothing. Overweight young ladies and, in general, by the 10th week of an interesting situation may not notice changes in their own appearance. However, if the expectant mother’s wardrobe contains tight-fitting dresses or overalls with belts, then they will no longer match at this stage of pregnancy. And another sign, enlarged and swollen breasts, will not allow you to put on the same bra. In no case should your clothes be too tight, because tight waistbands and straps will put pressure on blood vessels and cause a feeling of numbness, discomfort and inconvenience.

Features of baby development at the 10th week of pregnancy

The tenth obstetric week of pregnancy corresponds to the eighth embryonic week, and during this week the baby actively develops. Ultrasound is almost never done at this stage, except for special indications. However, even without such a study, a gynecologist can already tell the expectant mother that the baby’s skeleton, which last weeks consisted of cartilaginous and soft tissues, is now beginning to transform into hard bone tissues. This indicates that the expectant mother’s body is in dire need of calcium. It often happens that there is a deficiency of this microelement in the female body, and therefore she should consume more foods rich in calcium (fermented milk products, vitamin preparations with calcium).

At the 10th week of pregnancy, a woman should be especially careful, avoid stressful situations, and avoid overworking the body. Rest more, gain strength and remember that there are still many difficulties ahead. At this point, the embryo has a fully formed face and lower jaw. The baby's upper lip and jaw are actively developing. The baby's nose is not yet fully formed; it is covered with a thick layer of mucus and already has smell receptors.

The first trimester is the most important stage of pregnancy. In the first weeks of gestation, the embryo attaches to the uterus, and the child’s organs and systems are formed. At this stage, even minor factors can affect the processes of intrauterine development and lead to miscarriage.

At the beginning of the 10th week of gestation, the final stage of placenta formation occurs. From now on, the baby will grow and develop solely at the expense of the mother’s body reserves. The embryo becomes a fetus and is no longer so vulnerable, but in some cases its health may be at risk. In order to safely carry and give birth to a healthy child, a mother must take care not only of herself, but also of her baby.

What happens in the body of the expectant mother at 10 weeks?

Pregnancy of 9-10 weeks is outwardly invisible, but many women note that tight clothes are already tight for them. In the first trimester, nausea is common. By the beginning of the tenth, many patients note that toxicosis has intensified, but soon their condition should improve significantly. It all depends on the individual characteristics of the body, so do not panic if your chest suddenly stops hurting or toxicosis disappears.

At the 10th week of pregnancy, a woman quickly gets tired and feels sleepy. Due to hormonal changes, her mood may change dramatically; euphoria and joy are quickly replaced by anger and irritability. Due to an extremely unstable emotional state, many women suffer from insomnia. In addition, sleeping on your stomach becomes uncomfortable; you have to choose a position that is comfortable for you. Body temperature remains within 37-37.2 degrees.

The 10th week of pregnancy in months is approximately two months and ten days - this is the 12th obstetric week. The embryonic period of development is over, now the embryo can rightfully be called a fetus. His organs and systems continue to develop. This mainly concerns the central nervous system.

Woman's feelings

The expectant mother notices how her tummy is slightly rounded. The fetus is still too small, but the uterus has become larger, now it extends beyond the pelvis.

At 10 weeks, a woman may experience the following sensations:

  • nausea, drooling, weakness, dizziness due to toxicosis;
  • heaviness and fullness in the iliac region;
  • discomfort caused by stretching of the uterine ligaments;
  • pain and tension in the lower back;
  • abdominal pain due to gastrointestinal disorders (constipation, bloating, heartburn, etc.);
  • apathy, drowsiness, irritability (due to hormonal changes, a special zone of the cerebral cortex is activated, vivid and colorful dreams occur);
  • pain in the mammary glands, release of colostrum (breasts become coarser at the 10th week of pregnancy, nipple areolas darken) (see also:).

By this time, weight gain normally reaches 2-3 kg. The volume of circulating blood increases, the uterus grows, and the breasts swell. Due to toxicosis, some women may lose weight, but this situation will change in the second trimester.

Often, due to increased production of melanin, age spots appear on the body. Sometimes the cheeks darken and a line appears along the abdomen. Hair begins to grow more actively, including on the face and chest.

Location and size of the uterus

More than two months have already passed since conception, the diameter of the uterus has increased to 10-12 cm, which can be compared to a large apple or grapefruit. The amniotic sac is filled with amniotic fluid. By this time, its volume is approaching 20 ml. The reproductive organ extends beyond the pelvis, moving to the area just above the pubic joint (see photo). A woman herself can feel where the uterus is if she lightly presses her palm on the lower abdomen.

The enlarging uterus puts pressure on the bladder, which causes frequent urination. Sometimes, when you laugh too hard, are scared, or sneeze, a small amount of urine may be released involuntarily.

A growing body needs a lot of nutrients and oxygen. The development of the placenta continues. By 9-10 weeks of pregnancy, it is securely fixed in the uterine cavity, participating in the metabolism of the embryo.

Nature of the discharge

At the 10th week of pregnancy, changes in the nature of the discharge sometimes signal the presence of infection. In addition, the patient may experience a burning sensation when urinating and itching in the intimate area. This condition requires appropriate treatment, because The life and health of the baby are at risk.

Brown and bloody discharge is considered extremely dangerous. When the breasts stop hurting, bleeding appears at the 10th week of pregnancy, accompanied by sharp pain in the lower abdomen, you should immediately consult a doctor. This condition can lead to miscarriage.

At the 12th obstetric week there is a risk of ectopic pregnancy. The patient's life is at risk, since the grown egg leads to rupture of the fallopian tube. The woman needs to be hospitalized immediately.

Can you feel the baby's movements?

At 10 weeks of pregnancy, the fetus is still too small to make a statement with kicks in the stomach. The woman does not yet fully feel the presence of the embryo, and then the fetus. At this stage, the baby is already quite active. With its outlines it already resembles a person. He moves his upper and lower limbs, trying to push away from the placenta. Due to the small size of the baby, even during the first pregnancy, the expectant mother cannot yet feel his movements.

Baby development and size

Dear reader!

This article talks about typical ways to solve your issues, but each case is unique! If you want to know how to solve your particular problem, ask your question. It's fast and free!

At the tenth week of gestation, the formation of all vital organs ends. A new stage of development begins. Now the baby will gradually grow and develop.

According to ultrasound, the size of the fetus on average reaches 30-40 mm, and it weighs about 5 g. Outwardly, it looks like a person, although its body still remains transparent and there is no hair. He already has a four-chamber heart beating at a rate of 150-170 beats per minute.

The fetus has already formed limbs with fingers. Thanks to the knee and elbow joints, the baby can move his arms and legs. The mouth and ears are also formed. On an ultrasound, you can see how the child opens and closes his mouth, grimaces and touches his face with his hands (see video).

The brain develops especially quickly during this period. Experts estimate that up to 250,000 neurons are created in the brain per minute.

The fetus develops the rudiments of teeth, and the intestines complete their formation. The liver continues to develop, at this stage it is responsible for the function of hematopoiesis. Based on the blood of the former embryo, it is already possible to determine the group affiliation. His blood type may be different from his mother's. The lymphatic and immune systems continue to develop.

What research is being done?

After confirming the fact of pregnancy, when visiting the gynecologist again, he will determine the patient’s weight and pelvic dimensions and measure blood pressure. Then the expectant mother will be offered to undergo the following clinical studies:

  • general blood and urine analysis;
  • blood test for infections;
  • blood glucose level analysis;
  • glucose tolerance test;
  • cytology smear;
  • culture of urine for flora.

If a woman knows about her Rh-negative blood, then it is necessary to determine the blood type of the father of the unborn child. In case of Rh conflict, the patient needs to monitor the antibody titer throughout pregnancy. If necessary, additional blood can be taken to determine antibodies to toxoplasmosis and rubella.

If there is a risk of miscarriage (endocrine diseases), the doctor may recommend that the expectant mother undergo a test to determine hormone levels. If a pathology is detected, the patient is given a referral for analysis to determine specific infections. According to indications, ultrasound is prescribed.

If Down syndrome is suspected, in order to understand that everything is fine with the baby, specialists conduct a number of studies:

  • amniocentesis;
  • fetoscopy;
  • chorionic villus biopsy.

Depending on the research results, the doctor will confirm or deny the presence of genetic pathologies of the fetus. A woman may be faced with the question of the need for early termination of pregnancy.

All pregnant women over 35 years of age are at risk, so they must undergo all of the above studies. At 10 weeks of pregnancy, such patients are recommended to take a test to determine the level of the hCG hormone. This analysis helps assess possible risks and gives a prognosis for a favorable pregnancy outcome. If all tests are normal and gestation proceeds without pathologies, the first ultrasound will be scheduled at 11-13 weeks.

Is it possible to determine the gender of the baby using an ultrasound at this stage?

Although many vital systems and organs of the former embryo are already fully formed, determining the sex at this stage will be extremely problematic. Only modern ultrasound machines with good resolution allow experienced specialists to predict who may be in the womb - a boy or a girl. Sometimes these assumptions are wrong. If a boy is born, then at week 10 his testicles will already produce the main male sex hormone - testosterone.

If the pregnancy proceeds without complications, the expectant mother can lead a normal lifestyle, avoiding heavy physical activity. However, if the patient has undergone IVF, had an abortion, or has a history of miscarriages, then such a pregnancy must proceed under special conditions. It is forbidden to lift weights, be nervous, or have sex. During pregnancy, you need to forget about bad habits. Alcohol, cigarettes and drugs are strictly prohibited.

Nutrition should be balanced. You need to eat often, but little by little. It is better to choose foods high in vitamins and minerals, and you should avoid fast food. The expectant mother should monitor how much liquid she drinks. You need to drink at least 2 liters of water (juice, compote, tea, etc.) per day.

Bleeding and other possible complications and reasons to consult a doctor

A sign of normality is considered to be slight, light, odorless discharge. The threat of bleeding is brown and pink discharge. You should consult a specialist if you notice copious greenish, white and foul-smelling discharge.

If there is a strong pull in the lower back, a pink “daub” may be a sign of a miscarriage. About 10-15% of pregnant women face this problem.

Body temperature should not rise above subfebrile values. If the temperature persists, the chest suddenly stops hurting, toxicosis disappears, and the stomach and lower back hurt badly, such symptoms often indicate a non-developing pregnancy. Normally, mild nagging pain in the abdomen can occur throughout the entire gestation period, but brown “smudge” and tingling in the iliac and pubic areas are a reason to consult a specialist.
